So, $319 for my throttle control to feel much like it could in the free sport mode (but less revy) and $700 for 50 HP.

I mean, it's a truck. If I wanted to drive a fast car, I'd buy a car that's fast.

I'll bow out now as this whole thing just doesn't make sense to me.

Sport mode is NOT the same as a throttle controller. I'm not fan of the increase revving or holding the revs too long when it's not needed. The throttle controller gives you much better control of the vehicle when you're not stringing out the RPMs. Everyday driving, even putting around town, is way more enjoyable, and feels the way it should from this engine. While I like Sport mode, it's not an everyday driving mode, at least not for me. And the Pedal Monster is fully adjustable, Sport mode isn't. Put in as much pedal boost, or as little as you want in each mode. I wish I was closer to some of you, I'd let you experience it firsthand.

Fact is, they neutered this engine via the throttle pedal. It's a ridiculous attempt to eek out a few more MPG and probably save the rear tires, but it utterly destroys the dynamics of this brilliant engine. This is why those turbo fellas give us a bum rap. The 5.0L RAGES with the proper pedal dynamics.
I live in Worcester and work in Boston although I drive my company 2014 Ford for that. If you ever go near Worcester and are willing to let me try it then I would love to. One of the things that does annoy me about my truck sometimes is the transmission shift logic in normal mode. It skips from gear 1 to 3 and sometimes when it does that it hesitates right after the 1-3 shift as if the computer forgot to open the throttle for a moment. I don't think the pedal commander will change the shift logic but it might eliminate the lag which would be nice.

The trans will likely relearn shift patterns with a more aggressive or sensitive throttle. I'll def let you know if I'm out that way. Likewise if you pass by Dedham for work.

@Larrymoe you don't seem to pay attention to the details so I'll say it again....a throttle controller is way more than just Sport mode. And I want the FULL POTENTIAL of my vehicle's engine, regardless of what I'm driving, so that investment was well worth it to me. Will this supposed tune be worth it? That remains to be seen.

Again, you are definintely not the right audience for these products. That's fine. But I think you should stop poo-pooing them for people that may be interested. I don't make a commision on any of this, lol. I'm speaking as an auto enthusiast.

While a throttle controller is not 'cheap', the return makes it very worth it on the 5.0.

A CAI is more expensive with little to no return.

When I have the throttle controller disengaged, even with my stock throttle response adjusted in my Livernois tune, the truck feels like a lame duck.

You can dial it up to feel as though you're driving a raging beast, or dial it way down if you want to ease your way along a real slippery roadway.

Anyone interested, SKIP a pedal commander, mine fails consistently and drops the truck into super limp mode with almost no pedal. The Banks product is far superior.

This also means Livernois will probably have a tune out for 24+ soon.
That would be awesome. I'm definitely interested in a tune at some point and their E-boost tune for the PowerBoost sounds really good.

They're trucks.

Why spend $1-11k to make it drive like a fast car? Just buy a fast car.

And use the fast car to haul lumber, furniture, and landscape materials? Been there, doesn't work. And don't start with "rent a truck if you need one...".

Thing is, I have my old muscle car for quick rips. But it isn't my daily. And I don't want a boring daily driver.

But a serious question for you: why should we accept the factory castration of this powerplant because they bowed down to tbe EPA or wanted to make theie hybrid powertrains more attractive on paper? And there are options to get around this. It's one thing to buy a truck, it's another when it's deliberately hamstrung from the factory.

Kind of, sort of on topic…. I have a Sprint Booster throttle controller on my 2021 Jeep Rubicon with the 2.0 Turbo and I like it a LOT. I chose it because the “control module” is very small, about the size of my thumb, it has multiple settings, a valet mode and a security code feature.

Took me a while to get used to it but now I set it to 5 in Sport mode (9 is the highest) on the street and it just plain rips. I set is to a lower, less sensitive mode for off road. I’ve had it for a couple of years now with no problems.

I’m strongly considering an aftermarket throttle controller for the 5.0 and I’m leaning towards the Roar so that I can control it with just my phone and no additional modules on the dash.

You won't see the basic Pedal Monster at all. ?

Thank you sir, I would like to take you up on that offer. I just drove my truck this morning. I haven’t driven it since last Sunday. This 5.0 liter V8 engine has very good low end torque. Its relaxed when you need it to be and the torque propels this truck nicely. I do use 93 octane though so I believe that is a factor. I can feel the truck accelerate with each gear change and I like that feeling which makes it feel effortless to me. It rides and drives very nicely. It is a very comfortable vehicle to drive, especially on long highway trips where quietness and comfort are paramount for me.

I drive a 2014 RCLB XL with the 3.7 V6 for work so that is my baseline vehicle to compare it to but I also drive my wife's Kia Telluride 3.8 V6 which has a powerful and responsive engine. My 2014 Mazda CX5 which my daughter now drives with the 2.5 I-4 also has very good low end torque considering the size and weight of that vehicle and it moves out smartly and confidently in daily driving. I decarbonized the valves at about the 75k mark and it has 82k now which made a noticeable difference in engine response.

I sometimes still miss the off idle instant surge of power my 2WD SR5 2001 Toyota Tundra had with the 4.7L i-Force V8. Its acceleration was just average when I purchased it new but once I swapped those very restrictive log style manifolds with JBA headers it literally transformed that engine. It would shame many so called sports cars off the line if I wanted it to and it was just a blast to drive. That truck also weighed about 4,255 lbs I believe so it was light weight and with the Bilstien shocks and good tires it was also fun to drive. My 2024 F-150 XL 4x4 supercab by contrast weighs 4,942 lbs (687 lb difference) and that is with an all aluminum body, but the 5.0L engine is much more powerful. My Tundra felt light on its feet by comparison and it put down somewhere around 292 lb ft of torque to the rear wheels on an inertia dynamometer stock and then over 320 lb ft after that manifold to header change which was a big difference. The increased torque also occurred mostly down low too. ?

Little snippet of what you can expect with Banks...

You can see the dynamic relationship between physical throttle input and the actual response at the throttle body (via computercal magic ?‍♂)
