I had a 2016 2.0 ecoboost and that thing was an animal. Surprised yours felt slow.
Mine has the 1.6 and it wasn't even close to enough. I had assumed it was because it was a little tired when I had gotten it, but even after the rebuilt was installed I had to floor it and then wait for the telegram to be delivered before I could even consider passing someone on the interstate.

I honestly felt like my zero to sixty time should have been tracked by a calendar.

With my 2.0 from a light i would toast a lot of people up to 60. I went up against a ram 5.7 and torched it. Still to this day that was one of my favorite vehicles.

I believe gen 1 (11-14) was a cast crankshaft and powdered metal rods. Gen 4 is a forged steel crankshaft and sinter forged steel connecting rods. The new ones can take a lot more rpm and power than 1st gens. Redline on the current F-150 V8 is 6,800 rpm from the factory, those gen 1 were 5,500 rpm redlines.

Peak horsepower is claimed at 6,000 rpm, but I think the newer ones are a little under-rated checking out dyno runs on premium…I think they are making a bit more than 400 crank horsepower and that the power still builds passed the 6,000 rpm 400 HP rating. Problem is it’s very difficult to dyno the 5.0, since the trucks speed limiter kicks in before you hit redline at a 1:1 ratio.

In summary, the reason the F-150 version does not rev to 7,500 is because we have lower lift torquey camshafts and a torquey intake manifold, the gains beyond 6,000 rpm diminish fast since the engine is tuned for more mid range twist and runs out of breathing room. Lower lift cams perform better in the low end, higher lift better in the top end (like the mustang). They countered this by upping the size of the intake manifold and throttle body for the 4th gen, so it does breath good up to almost 7,000 rpm, but after that torque starts falling off fast and there is little power to be gained up there without swapping in the Mustangs cams—but then you give up the low end power to do that. Beyond 2018 they are both running the same 12:1 compression.
Oh ok, so they're still doing the torquey cams on the newer F150s. I didn't know they were using a different intake manifold too. Good info. Pretty nice that y'all have forged crank and rods too. Makes me wonder if the 2024 refresh 5.0s will get the dual throttle body setup that the mustang uses. I can't imagine they would, but who knows. I didn't know they were putting the forged internals and 12:1 compression ratio from the Mustang in the current model, so maybe they would.

Ya I believe my mother in law has an Escape with the 1.6, seems far too underpowered. Hers is FWD, and it barely tries to torque steer. Same as Gagliano though, my wife used to have a 2018 Escape with the bigger ecoboost, and I loved the power. AWD and what felt like a meaty powerband (until you got above 5000rpm). But yes, that 1.6 seems like it has one third of the horsepower in comparison.

So random update time for anyone still watching this thread.

It's now been almost two months since my engine blew up and I've been without it. Ford warranty department has approved a short block and cylinder head replacement on the #4 cylinder side, and of course most of those parts are on an indefinite back order.

I've tried contacting Ford customer service about the possibility of getting a long block replacement approved instead, in the hopes that might be faster both in terms of wait and swap out, since I know the understaffed and over worked mechanics at the dealership are just dying to rebuild an engine in house, and of course I'm just dying to see those results (insert audible eye roll here...) however I keep being ghosted by the customer service reps.

I've contacted @Ford Motor Company on here and they put me in touch with customer service, same result.

Anyway, in the mean time the dealership has given me a '23 power boost as a loaner. Today I got this text message:

"Good afternoon. The truck we have you driving has a recall that has come out on it. We aren't legally supposed to loan/rent a vehicle with an open recall. This recall takes about a 1/2 hour to do, not very long and we have the parts. Is there a day you could swing by with the truck and just hang out for a little bit while we get the recall taken care of?"

I understand this kind of thing happens, but the irony and frustration of now having to take the loaner in and wait for them to fix it all because I'm having to wait for them to acquire the parts and fix the truck I'm actually making payments on is not lost on me.

It's also not lost on me that I will likely have to bring this tuck in for it's first oil change before they even touch mine again.

I just want MY truck back, and I'm beginning to get quite irritated that I keep being ignored.

I would probably lawyer up. IMO, the average mechanic at the dealer doesn't even know how to rebuild an engine. They should just send a brand new engine, 2 days at the most to replace, end of story.

That is infuriating. I sure hope this gets resolved for you soon. I wouldn't want techs nowadays rebuilding an engine if they're just getting used to remove and replace procedures.

Hopefully they do an engine so you can just get in and out of there instead of dragging it out for 6 months. Good luck

It should really only take half a day to drop in a long block.

But then they need to complete it, right? I gave them 2 days ?. I think they should replace the entire engine, just ship a fully assembled engine to put it in.

The recall they contacted you about is (probably) the e-parking brake wire-bundle rubbing on the axle (in another thread on here). The repair finally came out. It is so simple a caveman could do it in about5 minutes, provided the wire bundle hasn't actually worn through. Takes a large zip-tie (like nearly half-inch wide, I think), and "Polyken 650" tape (looks like heavy duty electrical tape). Thinking of just doing it myself, at least until we can get the truck to a proper dealership (there isn't one near me).

Do you happen to have a link to the official TSB?

Ironically enough the parking brake setting during random stops was one of the things I had complained about with my truck. Dealer could never reproduce it of course, so they just kept writing it off as could not duplicate everytime I brought it in.

When I first saw the article about the recall words can not describe how vindicated I felt. Of course I checked the wire bundle right after that and everything looks fine, so clearly that wasn't my issue. But it was nice not being crazy for a little while. ?

This info may be useless. Years ago Dealers had regional/district reps that visited on some interval they could put you in touch with / in person appointmet to resolve issues. If they still do that it may be a better form of customer service or not.
I feel your pain. Your experience doesn't do much to say I want to do business with these guys they are great. Hope my older truck doesn't experience anything like this. They'd probably tell me to just junk it and buy a new one.
