Just picked up a 2025 XLT powerboost. Absolutely love this truck. Does anyone have a rough idle when the truck starts and goes to 1300 rpm? After a few minutes it will idle down and smooth out.

Thanks

I’ve had my PB for about a month and a half now. Mine behaves much like yours. it seems to be the nature of the beast. It took me by surprise because my former non-hybrid 3.5EB idled as smooth as glass.

I’ve been in my PB for about an week after 4 years in an EB. I was amazed how often the only reason I knew it switched to ICE was the tach. I don’t know if I’m an anomaly, or if I’m still in the honeymoon phase. But I don’t see it idling as rough at all.

Check and see if you have eco idle enabled. If you do, it will idle high while it charges the ev battery. The drag from charging will give it a slightly rough idle feel.

Your lucky, all 4 of mine have been rough, like mentioned by LD50 maybe I should try eco-idle.

Straight from the manual:

Eco idle increases the engine idle speed above normal for a short period of time to efficiently charge the high voltage battery. Note: Engine sound and vibration could be more noticeable

My 2025 Lariat idles rough sometimes. Seems more often when the engine is cold.

This is perfectly normal behavior on the PB when the electric drive motor is actively charging the HV battery pack. The electric drive motor when in charging mode puts a decent load on the ICE causing the intermittent rough idle. Enabling Eco idle will help when in park by raising the rpm to 1500-1700 and reduces the HV charge time from 40% to 63% (normal operating range for the HV battery) in approximately 90 seconds. However the idle rpm will not increase when in gear or neutral causing more demand on the engine at low idle rpm causing a significantly rougher idle. During the engine warmup cycle the PB will typically not charge the HV battery back until the engine temp is at least 130-150F so a delay or cycling into and out of HV charge mode may be experienced as well.

After a while you get used to it and don't really notice the change in idle anymore. When I first got mine 3 years ago my wife would comment on the rough idle every time it happened. Took her probably 3 months to realize that this is just how this truck behaves and stopped bringing it up. lol

Yup. Get this sometimes too.

Researched this awhile back. It seems to be extremely common and almost certainly normal.
