I know this has been a problem in the past, but it looks like it did not get fixed with recalls in 2022!

I've had the Trailer Brake System Fault popup on different days...when its been raining. So maybe a hint there?
But the other codes that you can see on the scan report seem to indicate a possible network error...maybe.
I have not had a trailer connected to the new truck yet.

Taking it to the dealer in the morning so we will see what happens next. Its troublesome because I bought the truck to pull our travel trailer.

Quick update after today's "service" at a local dealer...

They could not get the fault to appear, so they updated software on the TRM and told me that I could pick it up. Before I got to the end of their driveway it threw the "Trailer Brake System Fault". So I backed it up to its parking space, left it running so they could see it. I'm trying to be patient. They still have the truck.

Seems like someone would know what conditions would cause that fault to appear? I'll see what tomorrow brings.

GEM1,
I really wish you better luck than I have had. I purchased an f150 back in May of 2021 for the purpose of towing our TT and since that time have not been able to tow it. From the day it was purchased it had no trailer brakes due to a bad trailer brake module that finally drew a recall in 2022, the first update in April of 2022 failed. I got another update the end of June that they told me worked but within a week or 2 in July of 2022 I got this "Trailer Brake System Fault" message. they said don't tow anything till it was fixed. They tried several times to update the TRM plus every other module and finally said I needed a new trailer brake module but they were on backorder. Fast forward 3-4 months and I had a new module, according to the dealer the new module was faulty, we'll order another one I'm told. Second one was also bad they said and the 3rd one was good but did not solve the problem. It must be the wiring I'm told so they inspect the wiring, 31 days in the shop this time, no fix. A field Rep is called in and he says replace the battery junction box ( fuse box under the hood) so they do, no fix. it is now March 2023 and the truck is in the shop another week because they are replacing the Gateway module (recommended by another expert) which means they're removing a good portion of the dash and console to get to it and also replacing 3 wiring harnesses. God only knows how long this will take. I am also waiting for the 2nd wiper motor recall which won't be available till the 3rd quarter of this year which will replace the other wiper motor recall that they did last October, a recall on a recall. What a novel idea. What the heck happened to FORD?? 20 some times in for service in 22 months. I don't mean to upset anyone but I hope this is not what you have to look forward to. Ford Rep please don't ask for a PM from me because I am already dealing with Ford Customer Relations since last October. As GEM1 said, "Seems like someone would know what condition would cause that fault to appear". especially after 8 months. GEM1 you may be trying to be patient but after 22 months I have completely lost all of mine. Good Luck with your new truck.

Quick update. Ford is involved and a new wiring harness is on back order.

PMC JR - Sure hope they solve your problem one way or the other. Pretty terrible experience after the excitement of a new vehicle.

The dealer replaced the trailer connector. I still have not towed, and we have not had any serious rain since the repair. Hopefully, that's all it was. I'll update if there is a change

Mine has done this a handful of times. Only towing a small utility trailer, so not a big deal... just annoying. Disconnecting and reconnecting the lights/plug has made it go away each time. It does seem like it's some connection issue with the plug or adapter.

Since replacing the connector in March, the problem has not surfaced again. Several thousand miles of towing. Hopefully its gone for good.

You got them to replace the 7 pin connector in back?

I am coming in late to the party apparently. I just bought a 2023 powerboost and I got the trailer brake module issue at 400 miles. I bought the Max tow package to tow my trailers. I am in the middle of a move. I am seriously disappointed to find out that this has been an issue for the last two years and Ford has not fixed it. The amount of money we spend on a new truck and they know it has issues…. 100% wrong.

I know won’t help you, but the 1st NTSB tech bulletin for this was April 2021, and my truck has been hell ever since. Unfortunately I live in Canada, so Ford Canada says can’t duplicate, therefore does not exist. Hope you can do better

I can tell you this. I bought a 23 kings ranch powerboost about 6 months ago. So far it's been good.
After a rainy, cold night here in the Phoenix area (that's correct...26 degrees in the morning) my right mirror wouldn't open for about 15 minutes. Later that day, the trailer module fault popped up. At the same time, my blinkers started flashing fast.
Anyway... it was a fuse. Number 91 in the fuse box under the hood. Easy fix. I didn't take it in, wasn't worth a half day for me.
