My payload capacity is 1708lbs and I'm likely going to hit or slightly exceed it with this newly developed composite slide-in camper trailer. I've always camped out of my F150's. I'm older now and looking forward to using this camper (pictured on the builders 2014 F150). It'll be a tall rig and when finished. I'm thinking we'll need to upgrade the truck to be safe, making sure we can drive safely. The first phase to support the slide-in camper is adding High Load (E-rated or 10 Ply) tires, Airbags, and a rear sway bar/s. Doing this should keep the truck level and provide better support and control while driving. Ultimately, if it becomes an issue I'll have to upgrade the truck to an F250. In the meantime, I'd like to know from experienced campers, or experts in weight distribution, if others have or are doing the same thing? There's a big after market industry targeting these issues and I've got to think I'm on the right path without having to shell out a shit ton of $$ for a truck upgrade. I know there's a lot of dialog out there on this. Please, only reply if you have experience and know what you are talking about. Thanks - Prospector!

I think this is really cool, and I'm all about upgrading trucks to handle more than what the factory says. Be prepared though, most users on this forum are going to berate you.

Cool build, though, and I can't wait to see it done.

Trust me, I'm not looking or trying to go over the GVWR. I may need to scale some components back, drive without extra water until I need it, add food as needed, remove the crew cab seats to gain some weight, etc.. We'll see how it goes.

I’m confused is it an (2.7/3.5) eco-boost or a 5.0 Coyote?

I'd want a F-250, or at least a F-150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package.

My F-150 XLT Mid has 2000 lbs payload for example with the tow/haul and BAP packages only, 300 lbs more than yours, which is decent.

If you are dead set on this, sway bars, Road Active Suspension Leaf Spring helper, HDPP/ max tow rear leafs, upgrade brake rotors and pads, PPE deep transmission pan.

Engine aside, I have thought about doing something similar but have shied away from it. If you have an upgraded rear axel like with the max toe package it may be able to handle it but as far as I know the frame is still the same. With a half ton you will be better served with a camper trailer. It would provide more space and less worries.

All depends on how much over the "official" weight ratings you end up with. I personally would want to KNOW those numbers.

The aftermarket can absolutely address adding stability to the truck under burden. It's just physics.

But there's only so much "headroom" above the "official" ratings. And it's an unknown quantity.

One way to unload the truck would be to tow a very small trailer with whatever you would normally store inside.

I've thought about that and it may be an option. But then I think I need to register it, etc..

Okay, thanks! Road Active Suspension Leaf Spring helper instead of Airbags/Sway Bar/ etc? I'm not an experienced on this stuff but I'm quickly learning.
