Ok thanks for this. I have been trying to follow all of the different posts on this subject and thought I had heard 23 people are now coming forward with the issue.

Yes. There have been a few other reports of the axle-bolt failing and as a result of continued driving the axle-shaft migrates inboard until the splines at the outboard hub-end strip due to inadequate engagement.

So far I've not seen reports of damage at the differential as a result of this. It seems the hub-end splines strip before things move far enough to cause problems in the differential.
I'm having an issue with the axle making a clicking sound (outlined on yet another axle thread ). Technician mentioned splines might be making the noise. Curious if the original poster had any warning before the incident, specifically with noises? Since we tow with our truck, this thread makes me think I need to demand they replace the axle (again). (Truck is PB, Max Tow, 4x4)

I don't remember any noises, but there might have been a clunk every now and then. No idea if it had anything to do with my problem last week. The clunk was super rare, and I thought it might just be the transmission not finding the right gear.
I'll never forget the noise from the axle however... I thought someone had hit me from behind;.

Mine will probably blow up tonight now that I’m saying this, but I’m at 42k on an early build 21 and the only issue I’ve had was an axle shaft. Mine broke the washer and not the bolt and whipped out the ABS speed sensor. A lot of these horror stories I’m hearing sound more like a crappy dealer with piss poor service department than a lemon truck to me.
