Next was the JLT oil separator. When I popped the hood to install it, I noticed the assembler at Ford had left a large rubber band stuck in the factory hose.

Funny, when I got my 2020 XLT it had a rubber band under the hood but hanging off valve cover for dear life, lol. When I got my 2023 Tremor 402A with 5.0 it was missing the cold crank case vent tube... Excellent QC...

RAPTOR WHEEL!

I have enjoyed the XLT leather steering wheel but always regretted not having one that was heated in the winter. The Raptor wheels have heat AND paddle shifters that should be fun to play with.

I found this 2024 Raptor wheel from a seller on Facebook. I really like that the center stripe is textured black instead of red like the previous years. I think it will go better with my interior.

My truck doesn’t have all the features that the Raptors do. I also don’t want the trim with “Raptor” on it since I don’t have one. So, I swapped the trim and buttons from my XLT wheel onto the Raptor wheel. It has a lot cleaner look.

To make the paddle shifters work, you need a plug and play harness. CSS Automotive Lighting, LLC offers them in specific versions for column shift or console shift trucks.

In order for the heating work, you need a conversion harness, a clock spring for a truck with a heated wheel, and Forscan programming. I ordered the harness from CSS but had to buy the clock spring from Ford. They used to sell them for $60 but recently jacked them up to $200!

I’m impatient and like immediate rewards. So, tonight I installed the wheel and swapped the trim and buttons just to see how everything looks and feels. I realize I will have to take it all apart again when the harnesses and clock spring show up.

I don’t care! This thing is awesome! It’s way beefier and the leather feels much nicer than my stock wheel. Can’t wait to complete the swap!

Raptor wheel is fully functional
Today I finally got around to running the wiring harnesses for the Raptor wheel. After some
Forscan programming, everything is working perfectly!

The flappy paddles are fun to play with and the heated wheel gets nice and toasty. Now I’m all set for winter!

Active air dam motor connector covers

I got some blank connectors from a guy on Facebook to cover the plugs for the active air dam motors. One is four pin and the other is five. They fit perfectly and do a way better job of protecting the connectors than the electrical tape job I put on them. I also zip tied them in place to keep them from flopping around.

If you want some, search for Todd Zabbia on FB. He’s got limited quantities.

Your build just popped up in the recent threads. I'm glad I stumbled upon. Awesome build and a true labor of love over the last couple years!

If you don't mind sharing what was the all-in cost to swap the steering wheel and add the various harnesses and parts.

Ford Performance door sills
Picked up a pair of Ford Performance door sill plates. I think they look great!

I was worried the Husky floor liners would scratch them so I put the factory carpet mats back in. I kept the original sill plates and will put them and the Husky liners back in for the winter.

A few updates:

It’s been a while since I posted any updates so this will be long.

Over the winter, I noticed that the chrome tips on my Magnaflow exhaust had rusted through. I emailed customer service to see if I could buy some replacement tips. They told me they don’t sell them separately, but if I would send pics and a copy of the receipt, they would send me a new exhaust under warranty. A couple of weeks later, that big black and yellow box showed up at my house!

My truck is my daily and my job requires me to drive through Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. A couple of months ago, I had to make a trip to Toledo. I was in the right lane because my exit was coming up when the semi in front of me threw a large piece of drywall, that had been laying in the road, up in the air and it smacked the front of my truck, HARD! I had no where to go because a FedEx tandem trailer truck was beside me and another semi was behind me. I had no choice but to take the hit.

$5200 worth of damage but the body shop did a great job. Both bumper pads got blown out. Lower trim was cracked, grille shutters shattered, grille badge broken, antenna mount bent, right headlight had a 6” crack on the backside, hood dented and scratched, right fender and valance scratched, passenger mirror cover had a chunk taken out.

The carbon fiber splitter was also cracked, but I had already purchased a different version. Fortunately, it was still in a box in my garage. It was not included in the insurance claim. Unfortunately the dash cam video won’t load.

The worst part was that I could not find a grille badge like the one I had. When I first bought it, it took months to find one that was chrome on the outside with a black background. I searched the internet and even had a dealer research the part number from the back of the broken badge. The closest I could find was chrome with a blue background or black outer edge with a black background. I ended up buying both and making my own badge from the parts.

While the truck was at the body shop, I took them the new carbon fiber splitter. This one was made by RK Sport like my last one, but it is a specific design for Coloradatruckparts (CTP). The CTP version has a more aggressive look and I really like it better.

Enjoy the beauty shots at the local reservoir. They were taken before I did the grille badge rework:

Last thing to add is organizers. I had a guy from Muslogy Mod reach out to me about organizers they were making for the center seat. He sent me a prototype version of the lower organizer to have me check it out. It was clearly 3D printed but it was a perfect fit!

I sent him some pics and a video. In return, he sent me a finished product set of the upper and lower organizers. He also sent me an armrest pad for the center seat console cover!

The organizers are great! The armrest pad is a little awkward because of the thickness but it’s a good quality product. You can find them on Amazon by searching for Muslogy Mod.

Hitting the sheetrock and seeing your front end damage reminded me of a little jostle I had with a 4'x4'x8'x plastic shipping container in my 2018 Z06/07 in heavy rush hour traffic at the usual 80 mph for that lane one night. I'm in the left hand lane with concrete guardrail which eliminated any shoulder on the left.

Car in front of me pulled over quickly but not an emergency manuever. I'm low, so I can't see around him anyway. Laying dead ahead was the shipping container. Assess the situation in about half a second. 1) I already know I have no option to the left. 2) Don't have time to assess traffic on the right, which is the obvious manuever but could create one hell of a serious chain reaction (lots of semis). 3) Don't want to jump the carbon ceramic brakes because my fellow 80 mph left lane friends were going same speed as I was. I can stop my Z06 with in a real hurry, but that lifted F150 (or whatever it was) behind me will be going straight over my roof if I am lucky. So, just took my foot off the gas.

I hit that container at probably 70/75 mph and it exploded. I remember a very large piece flying over traffic with my peripheral vision on my right. Most probably flew over me. I never saw anything go over the left hand retainer wall. I am quickly slowing down trying to pull over to the right shoulder, but then remembered I had no shoulder there either. I am slowing down quickly. People are letting me over to the right. An exit came up and I took it. Still no place to pull over.

Finally get to a small office building, get out, and assess the damage. Damage seems superficial on the front end. The windshield had some large scrapes, but nothing else showing. I sit down to reclaim my senses. I hear no sirens. I look over to the freeway. It is the usual 80 mph still. I call 911. No one shows.

I am still drivable, although I hear what sounds like something grinding the road under the car. It did not sound like metal, so screw it at this point. The crate must have been empty. I limp home listening to that grinding the whole way, pull into the garage and the little 1 1/2" rise knocked off whatever I was dragging.

Damage was primarily the carbon fiber splitter was gone and the grill had a couple of loose teeth. Replaced and painted those parts, buffed out the paint and windshield scrapes, and was left with a very small scrape on my factory carbon fiber on the hood which could not be buffed out because it was a factory wrap material.

This incident is burned into my brain. The Z06/07 will soon be up for sale. Never heard from anyone else.

Then I could tell the story about totalling my 2023 F150 XLT with 1,810 miles on it. But I figure that is enough tears for the day.

Anderson Composites carbon fiber tailgate spoiler
This spoiler replaces the factory tailgate top cap. I also had to remove the clamp pockets to make it fit right.

It’s really a solid piece as it mounts with 8 bolts through the top of the tailgate and 4 factory push type fasteners in the front edge.

It ain’t cheap but dang it looks good! It really ties together well with the carbon fiber splitter on the front.

This looks like the original Saleen rear spoiler and not like the one they currently offer to the general public which is a copy of the Air Design spoiler. I didn't like the idea of a rear spoiler that attaches with double-sided tape and it didn't have enough "flip" to it. A guy on FB offered one similar to this made of fiberglass, but it also attached with tape. I know I'll get it, but I have to go through the 47 stages of I want it, but it's a grand.....but it will look great.....but it's a grand......but it'll look awesome......it's what I've been waiting for.....but it's a grand......IYKYK.

PS--It looks GREAT !!!!! And I'm glad Anderson Composites did it right.
