2021 F150 STX 12" Screen Upgrade Requires APIM Replacement?

I have the 8” screen with sync 4. It has navigation, xm, and wireless apple car play. I want to upgrade to the 12 inch. Do I need to replace the APIM?

Hello, can anyone help here. I replaced by 8" with the 12" display tapping into fuse #22 and fuse #29 in BCM fuse box. I made the change in forscan to the respective 12" display - and it generally works. I also updated the cluster from the 2" to the 4" same from a similar build truck, I did not code the VIN to the cluster as I do not know how.

Issue: however every now and then I get a black screen that is random. Sync4 gets OTA updates, last one was 4.2.1, the ford app works just fine turning off/on remotely. Music plays and carplay works fine while the screen is black but I cant see anything until I turn ignition on/off once again. I have 2 DTCs when connecting FDRS. I tried updating APIM SW, but get the dreaded "USB error.." 15min into the update so I gave up on that one.

Should I tap into a different fuse?

I have this same problem. Mines updated but keep having issues with the screen going black. Did you figure out a fix?

I had this issue when doing my swap as well. I wound up swapping my stock APIM for the one that came with my screen and have not had any issues.

Using the stock APIM from my 23 STX with the screen gave me incorrect component DTCs in the APIM.
