If you changed anything (lift, level, lower, heavy load in bed, wheels/tires) I'd think that the camera/IPMA calibration might need to be revisited also.
No lift, level, lower, heavy load in bed, wheels/tires. All stock running gear. Went to magnum trailers (much closer than the boat) and tried hitch assist on 2 different trailers. 4 total attempts. Each time the truck ended up a couple of inches left of the trailer. Close but no cigar.

I am wondering if some calibration is also required? I know that when the screen switches to brackets.. the hitch IS NOT in the center of the bracket. Or maybe hitch assist is marketing baloney and it doesn't work in general! Since nobody has posted on this working and I know we have 2022 and 2023s running around. And oddly, not even a search Youtube or Ford web finds anything.. the closest thing is dynamic hitch assist which is really the rear camera helping you see how to turn the wheel.

https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/ford-technology/driver-assist-features/dynamic-hitch-assist/

Thinking about it.. I am going to get within 5 feet and then try again.. maybe the camera isn't seeing the hitch clearly at a distance. But I suspect some sort of alignment or calibration issue.

Ok.
Bingo. Trailer hitch assist works on my 2021 Job 1 Platinum.

I had some DTCs. Odd in that I did a read and a clear before I shut down when I made the original changes. But I didn't do the APIM reset. After the clear and reset and another read for new DTCs ... all good.

WARNING: Be ready to intervene and hit the brake. More testing (3X) at Magnum (lighting, shadows, contrast all about as good as it gets) resulted in the truck backing up way to fast in addition to being misaligned somewhat. If I had not hit the brakes the trailer would have smashed into the bumper.

So even though the prompts work and the truck attempts to connect I would say NOT WORKING properly is more accurate.

There's probably a way to do it via forscan (maybe the forscan experts will chime in with those), but I solved it @PungoteagueDave 's way:

I fix software bugs!
Need help configuring an OEM Trailer Brake Controller (ML3Z-19H332-AA) purchased from a Ford Dealer. Got everything in, but cannot adjust gain.

  • Forscan 2.3.47
  • OBD EX with latest firmware
  • New under dash controller and in dash gain controller installed
  • IPC:
    • Trailer Brake Controller Enabled
    • There is no "Gain Control" in the IPC module that I can find
  • TRM: programmed with the as-built data (It came with all FFFFs)
    • TRM.PNG
  • AIPM: Trailer Brake Controller Enabled
  • PCM:
    • CF1 - Trailer Module Available
    • CF2 - Trailer Brake Moduel (yes that's how it's spelled) Not Available. No idea what this is.
  • No DTC's
The truck detects the trailer, asks for the trailer profile, trailer lights work etc; but the gain controller does nothing. The backlights for the +/- buttons work with the truck's lights, so it's plugged in.

Did I miss something?
Hello, did you ever get your TBC working? When I looked at the TRM, I have all FFFF's too, I changed them to your values and saved. The progress got to 80%, I heard the black box click once and FORScan failed with failed to update module.

How do I find the PCM CF1 and CF2?

Never managed to get it working myself. Ended up taking it to my local ford dealer and they programmed it. Honestly should've just bought it from them and had them program it too; would have been cheaper.

After install, the module still showed initial programming incomplete; and it occasionally would display a trailer brake controller fault; took it back and they had to reprogram some other modules.

I'm probably going to be embarrassed when I hear the answer... I understand that the 'x' values mean you should leave as-is, but what do the '-' values mean? I did the double horn honk disable on my truck and left the '-' values as-is and it worked. What is the difference between the 'x' values and the '-' values? Thanks!

The last 2 values are a checksum. Forscan automatically adjust them for you. So you do not need to edit them. You can go back and look at the line you changed and see that the last 2 digits changed.

Like you, I wanted SO Badly to disable that double honk. Especially at night at home.
But just as much I want to know my REAL engine coolant and transmission temps

I'm one happy camper now! Thanks so much to you guys who figure this stuff out and generously share. I mean that!

Does the 302A get you the 12" Display in the instrument panel?
I don't think the Forscan gurus have cracked the XLT instrument panel yet for the temps.

Not in my 21 XLT 302A truck...it is only the 8 inch screen with analog speed and tack.

I'm intrested in the concept of active park assist that was discussed on another thread. Anyone have thoughts?

One of the latest updates for the APIM now makes it so the truck always defaults back to 3D heading up (I MUCH prefer 2D north up) every time I start it up. It also does not maintain zoom anymore, it automatically zooms back in after a set period of time or turns, I'm not sure

Are the any FORScan setting that allow me to default to 2D north up and maintain the zoom if I zoom it out?
Ooh. That would drive me nuts having the map like that. I love it in 3D always showing my current direction as up or forward as the case may be. Too each his own I guess. Lol.
