Dealer called me yesterday and stated they "replaced the door handle" after they were able to observe the issue, then, if "that doesn't work, they'll replace the actuator." I'm rather skeptical that it's a "handle" issue unless the rep simply wasn't technical enough in her explanation.
Got it back today. They replaced the door latch (Part # listed is ML3Z*15264A27*C) on the driver door. I'm somewhat encouraged because it was clearly left outside overnight (had snow on it) and it was about 8 degrees F when I picked it up. So fingers are crossed no more occurrences.

Take it through the carwash and let is sit outside overnight. If it survives that , I would have more confidence.

I've gone through twice since. Lot of salt on the roads.. hasn't dipped down into the teens just yet, but it's supposed to drop to 4 deg F by Friday morning, so that'll be a good test.

2021 Plat.. Passenger side wouldn't unlock for me in the cold. No snow, no ice on it. Parked in my heated garage overnight and it worked next morning.
This Truck has more hiccups than a herd of professional drunks.

It’s been just over a week since I got the truck back after they replaced the driver door lock assembly and actuator and I haven’t had any issues since. They also road tested my truck for 25km’s because I was noticing vibrations in the steering wheel when highway driving over 100kmph. That resulted in it being covered in a whole bunch of salt and dirt. I just washed the truck today because we finally got above 0 weather and noticed a paint chip right next to the door handle where it looks like they wedged a tool into a rubber piece on the door handle (I can see marks in the rubber where they slid the tool in) and where the paint chipped is probably what they used for leverage to pop the handle out. It’s not a huge chip by any means but quite annoying now that I notice it. Not sure if it’s even worth bringing up to the dealer because it’s been over a week since they worked on it and they probably won’t admit to doing it. I’m about to order a paint match pen from somewhere online.

The last couple days have been a test. Ice storm and a few inches of snow; temps in the low teens. Door has unlocked/unlatched properly at every turn, so it's looking pretty good that in my case this is fixed with the new door latch.

Today my truck went to the dealership to have this looked at. The good thing was it was stuck so the tech could see what the issue was. He immediately said its probably the door latch since he had repaired dozens of these on the 15-20 models. They did the further diagnosis that Ford said to do and ordered a driver door latch. Part availability was ‘unknown’, so the part will arrive in the future, but who knows when.

The tech did say that it looks like they updated the design a bit and mine was the first 2021 that they had seen. It was however experiencing the same sort of frozen latch failure that hit the 15-20s but “it was latching the door locked instead of leaving it unlatched and free swinging”

My two Gen13 F-150's that had the door latch freezing issue both would freeze in the closed and latched condition. Same with my tailgate that froze on my first Gen 13 truck.

Update: Friday my truck (finally) went to have the parts installed for the door lock issue. I was speaking with the tech and the part that came out of my truck was ML3Z-15264A27-B, where the replacement part is ML3Z-15264A27-D so Ford has made some changes to the part requiring a new revision. Unfortunately or Fortunately, the weather has turned spring like and the cold temperatures are no longer sticking around, so I will not know if this is totally fixed until next winter.

Interesting.. I had rev C installed. So rev D has to be even better right? :D

In my case, I didn't have any repeat issues.. hopefully it is the same for you next winter.

Had that issue today, driver door wouldn’t open, got inside from passenger door and opened the driver door from inside, drove it then I wasn’t able to open the door from the inside and had to climb to the passenger side, pulled on the driver door a couple times from the outside and it opened but the locking tab continued to stay down,
Couldn’t get it to pop up when unlocking from the remote and door panel control. Thought it fixed itself from me clicking lock and unlock about 6 times and finally was able to get the tab to move up and down. Now It is stuck again and I unable to lock the driverside door, inside door handle is stuck and doesn’t move. Tried using the manual key and couldn’t get it to turn and lock the door. Service appointment booked for Thursday.. they said they had one in with a similar issue. It has been cold here -8 to -15 at night.

Hey James,
Just wondering if you had this problem fixed? Mine started doing the same where it was locked and couldn't open.. Just today the door will now stay open and wont lock... Very frustrating on a newer truck.. Took it to a dealership and they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it.. But it happens when it get cold overnight..
Thanks

Yea i was told the same thing when I first brought it in. “ well it’s not doing it now so it seems fine “ … happened again a day later so I drove the truck right through the front door of the dealership and climbed through the passenger side door to get out. They took the whole door apart and said the door latch assembly wasn’t working properly so they ordered a new one along with another part I believe. Issue was fixed and hasn’t caused a problem since. Go straight to the dealer next time it happens.

Mine told me the same thing and that "mechanical parts don't like to work in the cold". I raised holy hell with the service manager and brought it back for them to replace the assembly.. and it's been fine since. I suspect they replaced it with a later revision of the assembly because it's been fine even down in single digit temps.

Yesterday I took the kids to basketball practice last night and they could not get the left side rear door to open from the inside and got out on the other side. While they were at practice I opened it from the out side and did not see an issue. When later I picked them up they were able to open it from the outside and then later from the inside when we got home.

This morning I could not open it from the outside or the inside and it seems the lock nob (?) on top of the door does not move and has lots of resistance.

I scheduled an appointment at the dealer for next week, but has anyone else had or seen this issue? Will they be able to remove the door panel with out it opening?

Update: After work I was still not able to open the door, but after driving home I could open it, so I think it might be temperature related. It has been ~ 20 out today and this is the first cold spell so far this year. I will check it again in the morning to see if it is 'frozen' again. Perhaps there is too much grease somewhere that is getting stuck or something.

Update 2: The door had been working with out issue, so I canceled the service appointment and I guess no one else has had the issue. If it comes back I will take better notes and take it in for inspection.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION: The samething has been happening to my 2021 f150 on driver's side door. We have had a cold spell with daily temps averaging below 25F. This morning it was 19F and it happened again and I assumed it obviously froze again. I simply ran the heat on the highest temp/fan speed and pointed the left vent nearest to the driver door, directly at the door in the general area of the latch. It took almost 20 min but it eventually thawed it out and it worked. For the record, the outside temp remained 19F so clearly the heat worked. Hopefully this will work for anyone struggling with this annoyance. If you have auto-starter, I would keep the vent pointed in that direction and max out the heat so you can let it run a while prior to using. Good luck!

How has it been holding up? I’m at a total loss. My truck is doing the same thing and my local dealership told me “it is what it is” I can’t even drive my own dang truck without hopping over the center console. What should I try and have someone replace? The door latch and power lock actuator?
