ok, i decided to change the fluid and filter on my f150. i first made a note of the level when cold, it was between 5-6 which is the correct level when at operating temp if i am not mistaken. I drained about 6 quarts of fluid, Did the fluid and filter and put the bigger aluminum pan on and filled it with fluid . when cold and turned off it is filled almost all the way up and when hot and idling in park it doesnt even touch the dipstick. Someone i know who is a ford tech says it needs a valve body. Does anyone have any additional insight in this???

You say you drained 6 quarts. Did you put 6 back in? That would be the only way to ensure you have the correct level again without following the factory procedure if you had the correct level before the drain and fill. The proper fill level (at least for my 2024 5.0) is between 5 and 6 on the dipstick when the fluid is between 206-215F degrees and engine running.

This may help:

Might have been low from factory... Check fluid when the trans is warmed up. Remove dipstick with truck running and in P, check level, add as necessary.
