I just picked up a used 2021 F150 5.0L and it's currently sitting at 6,240 miles. This 4th 10Rxx I've had, and the 5th 10 speed (I had a 17 Camaro ZL1 auto). I am well aware of the whine at idle and the quirks of this transmission family. I currently have a 2024 Ranger Raptor as well, so I have a relative comparison. I also had a 2021 F150 Powerboost for over three years. On this truck I just bought, during the first 5-7 minutes of driving, I can hear a pretty loud growling noise that changes with RPM coming from what I believe is the transmission. I had the radio and HVAC off. Once the truck warms up, the noise goes away. Has anyone had this issue and if so, did you live with it, or did Ford work to address it?
The truck is still under the original powertrain warranty, it's also CPO, and I bought a PremiumCare ESP warranty for it, so I'm well covered. The interesting thing is I don't recall hearing the noise yesterday morning and the ambient conditions were pretty much identical. I had the truck backed into the driveway on Friday night just like I did last night, but today it was quite loud. I did do a long 200ish mile drive yesterday though, but I'll monitor for the next few cold starts and see if it continues.
