Yes yes.. I read a very informative similar post, maybe by you the other day. I should have said I would love insight into how they pull one of the thousands of trucks in a parking lot back in to have the final parts installed. Did they set up a new line? How do they find that specific truck and then where do they take it to install the missing modules? They had to have come up with an entirely new system. Please keep in mind Ford does not receive a shipment of "chips" and simply "plug" them into the trucks. They purchase electronic control modules (ie computers) from their suppliers which are made to their specifications. The modules are mounted/installed on the truck and plugged into the electrical harnesses.
Of course there's a whole list of supply logistic activities that need to successfully take place. Semiconductor chips and printed circuit boards are just some of the parts needed by Ford's suppliers who make the control modules. So the supply chain consists of chip manufacturers (most likely located somewhere in Asia) getting the raw materials, manufacturing and shipping those chips to Ford's suppliers who then have to manufacture and assemble the control modules which then need to be shipped to the plant and mounted on the trucks.
