Gotcha. Finally, something added to, not deleted from, the '25's LOL! How long a drive gets you 120? I've got a 1500' elevation drop in the first 5 miles of my AM commute then flat going for another 17, before another 1000' climb. It seems to take along time before the trans gets much heat in it at all, especially starting at -10F last Friday.
I have a 20 mile commute to work, about 90% highway 65+ and I drove somewhat spirited. It’s been single digits early in the morning and it’s crazy getting in the truck and seeing the trans temp at like 30 degrees. 😂😂

I will say this truck warms up ridiculously fast. Auto start for about 8 minutes and the coolant is at 130 degrees. 👍

The digital transmission temp is on my measurement screen on my ‘24, no mods from Forscan. I think ‘24 was the first year.

You are correct, I forgot 24 was the refresh. 👍👍

I dumped my 2021 2.7 pan and filter recently as well, for me the hardest part was the two bolts on the aft section, they were either 8 or 10mm and I had a heck of a time getting them out and in. I'm sure this wasn't an issue for you, I'm very amateur.

I keep reading about suction tools and I might go down that route to drain and fill some fluid in the future.

Yeah the vacuum procedure sure is nice. Especially after you do a filter service and start ‘fresh’.

I was on a lift and I removed the mounting bolts from the transfer case and raised the transmission to clear the exhaust so all bolts were easily accessible.

I do remember watching a video on what's required with the 5.0... on the 2.7 I don't have to remove anything which makes it that much nicer!

Haven’t done a 2.7 yet!

Sounds like a perfect set up to do in the garage. 👍👍

On my Septemeber build '25 302A, the trans temp -digital readout, not analog representation - is available in the "measurements" screen in the menu selections on the instrument cluster. Is that not available on earlier versions, or is it just not accurate? I can watch the temp change as I drive ranging from ambient at startup to a high of about 185 (its been cold here) that I've observed so far.
I would hope it would be the same, but the only real way to know is to watch it while watching a scan tool at the same time. I have a 2025, so I’ll do some testing myself eventually.

Wasn't so much questioning its accuracy as much as suggesting a reason why a scan tools might be needed. Didn't realize pre-'24's didn't have access to the digital temps from the factory. Kinda gotta believe they'd read the same, can't believe there would be multiple sources for the data. And if they are different, whihc one is correct? LOL

I honestly can’t decipher why the gauge in the dash wouldn’t display real time temp. This truck was an XL with non digital gauges.

I guess a good data set with FORscan or some sort of monitoring device would be in order.

Curious if any of your transmissions had the “characteristic whine” 10R80s are known for and if you noticed a difference after the fluid change?

Mine whines quite loud. Doesn’t matter if it’s cold or warm. It’s louder than the engine. It’s from the front pump gears. The way they are cut and how they mesh together during operation. Didn’t notice a difference in mine after I replaced the fluid.

As an example, an averaging calculation could be implemented by the OEM for a dash gauge or readout so that movement is less sporadic and more easily human readable. (Relates to what I mentioned about comparing to what the OBDII readout is outputting for that value). That being said it doesn’t make sense why it wouldn’t stay on the same value after an indiscernible amount of time.

That would make sense in theory.

It wouldn’t make sense for temperature gauge to do that as the temp would slowly rise until operating temp is reached. I could see that being an oil pressure gauge as it is constantly fluctuating. On the other hand, if the oil pressure didn’t read correct or took an average of a data set it could be catastrophic. I’m sure there is an engineer somewhere holding the secrets.

I bought my 2021 used but had the fluid changed at 88k miles and recently the transmission finally gave out. 182k miles I can't complain too much. Full rebuild cost about $5650 with a 2 year warranty. Drives perfect again.
