Should've been done a decade ago. Better late than never. As much as we drive in this county with the density of traffic all that fine particulate matter from GDI engines is quite literally killing us.

GPFs are no more maintenance intensive than a catalytic converter and just as reliable.
It's shocking how much black smoke some DI gas engines produce. Have you seen some of the Hyundias/ Kias/ VWs? They smoke like a stock pre-emissions diesels when accelerated hard.

Commuter vehicles in the US only contribute around 3% of global airborne pollutants every year. All these regulations are just for optics and make a negligible difference, but make things worse for the folks buying these vehicles.

Those pollutants are highly concentrated in the areas we all travel which is the issue. For decades we’ve known living near busy roads leads to poor health outcomes for everyone, especially those living near them as children. Some things like tire dust and brake dust are tougher to fix, but we owe ourselves and our kids a better future since we all have to get places on the same streets. Small PM from combustion is terrible and there’s no defending it. The technology to mitigate it is shockingly inexpensive compared to other things so it’s a no brainer. GPFs are reliable and don’t make things “worse.”

GM vehicles are also terrible for PM since they went spark ignition-direct injection a decade plus ago.

If you are as old as I am and they point out to you how harmful it is to breath the air in a traffic jam today, it will have you pondering how much worse the air was in the traffic jam I sat in 40 years ago. 😳

I read where today's tailpipe emissions are 99% reduced compared to 40 years ago.

Yeah, when you don't ever floor it. Or change the air filter or plugs. Ya know, commuter car things.

You have to think about how much more we sit in traffic and drive on crowded roads now. More but less polluting vehicles still isn't a great scenario. It's not a problem living out in a rural area for the most part, but 81% of us live in urban areas so we need the controls.

Not to mention rates of cancer, cardiovascular disease and so on among the boomers give us a window into just how bad air pollution was back in the day when they were young.

They also appear to have porked the data on the Pro Power Onboard. 400 Watts?
My understanding is that all of the 400W, 120V interior receptacles are now referred to as "PPO" throughout the F-150 lineup

I would go with a misprint, I believe manufacturers can advertise crankshaft horsepower within 5% or so. If you actually look at what they dyno and look at the correction factor the 5.0 typically IS 400 HP, the 3.5 usually translates a bit lower to upper 380- lower 390 range. It’s a torque monster not much of a high rpm breather. They may have slipped in an internal figure and not the *advertised* figure and I’d bet will correct it later. I don’t think they actually cut any power from the engine. Someone could try and find the turbo part #’s but I don’t if I buy that Ford is downsizing them randomly for 2026. That would be an odd expenditure and to retest and re-certify for what?
The 3.5 breaths great up top, I went from a 5.0 to a 3.5 and noticed no drop in highway passing power, just more bottom end and midrange.

To say the 5.0 is a real 400hp and the 3.5 is 385-390 is just bias coming through. Outside the 2026, they're both 400.

The decrease was due to a new particulate filter that Ford had to install to meet air quality restrictions.

Are you sure the 5.0 already has a GPF?

I thought only the 3.5 got one this year. And the 2.7, as well as the Direct Injection turbo motors from GM, Stellantis, and Toyota will likely have them in 2027? (2026 Toyota Tacoma I4 already got one?)

Basically the 2027 EPA rules had the manufacturers adding them to their turbo gas engines and Ford just jumped the 3.5 1 year early.

At least that's what I was hearing

And the 5.0 already has one.
Ford has not released their emissions specifications for the 5.0L as far as I can find but there are many references that say the 2026 5.0-liter V8 does not have a gasoline particulate filter like the 3.5L Ecoboost does. Turbocharged engines produce more soot than a naturally aspirated engine does so this makes sense. In fact because the 5.0L has both port fuel injection and direct injection and that engine already has some of the lowest emissions among Ford truck engines it may not need it for 2027 emissions compliance.

The 3.5L Ecoboost is now the F-150 high volume engine for the F-150 so it makes compliance with overall fleet emissions easier for Ford on a volume engine. Because the Tremor with the Ecoboost 3.5 is a low volume vehicle that model with the 3.5L Ecoboost does not have a gasoline particulate filter.
