I've just joined this thread for the very reason most of us are here - my rain-sensing wipers don't sense.

I live in Florida where we get rain every afternoon which gives me plenty of opportunities to use them. During a recent rainstorm, I enabled the function in the main system/screen and made sure my turn signal stock was rotated to allow for adjusted frequency (enabling the rain-sensing function to operate) - and nothing. However, when I turn off the function in the Sync system, the wipers work as regular intermittent wipers (allowing for adjustments made on the turn signal stock). Ironically, when the rain-sensing system is properly turned on and it is NOT raining, the wipers operate as if it were raining - totally backwards. I've since just disabled this feature...

I made an appointment with my service department and they stated they would give me a loaner car as it would take 2-3 days to reprogram the wipers. 2-3 days!?! I cancelled the appointment and will just take care of it with my first oil change.

If anyone has an idea on how to fix this without giving my truck to Ford for several days, I'm all ears. Thanks!
Thank you. This is exactly how mine is acting. I haven't tried to disable it in the settings but will do so tomorrow. If that works then maybe I'll just wait for a software update to fix it.

Yes, it's a quick fix (going old school wipers until a fix). Also, since our trucks now have "over the air" updates, one would think that we'd just wake up one morning and have it fixed vs. making appointments. We shall see... good luck!

UPDATE: While outside of the truck and standing at the hood looking at the windshield and the cameras, I noticed that the rain sensing wiper sensor had a weird shadow. On a hunch, I took off the plastic camera cover by the mirror (inside the cab) and it was immediately clear what my issue was - the rain sensor has 2 clasps that snap it into place when installed, but only 1 clasp was secure and the other was not, leaving the camera hanging incorrectly and not looking out the window. I snapped the other clasp and now it works as desired. Solved!

I just checked mine and I had the exact same problem. I haven't tested it yet but that has the be the issue. This was an easy fix. Thanks

Where is the sensor for the rain sensing wipers? Mine don't work at all.
The sensors are located behind the plastic cover just behind your rear view mirror - the rain sensor is the sensor to the far right. Mine was popped out - in these pics it is seen as reset as I already snapped it back in. It worked properly right after snapping it in place.

I have the weird little shadow as well, what is the best way to pop the cover off?

It’s fairly simple to pop it off - just feel around the edges and gently start to pull. You’ll notice one area or another that feels like it wants to give and then it should just pop off. No clips - just plastic flanges that secure back to the housing when finished.

This is such an awesome find, I wish the forum had some sort of common issues and solutions page to catalog things like this in an easy to find way.

The tips/tricks thread was a nice try, but it’s a thread and as such there is a bunch of fluff to sort through.

Good to hear and glad to help! It seems that these trucks were just pushed through the assembly line a little too quickly and these were not clipped properly…

I had the same issue and thank you for the solution. I had originally thought that I did not have the rain-sensing wiper option on my 501A build. This, plus the advice to seat all fuses firmly in the fuse box, will hopefully avoid future avoidable problems.

@MYF150FX4 - Thank you for this discovery! I would have never thought of that or even look at the sensor. I opened the cover and sure enough my sensor was hanging loose. Not only it wasn't attached on one side, the clip, or bracket, that secures it to the housing (as in your pic) is not even there ?. The window side of the sensor has an adhesive sticker that should stick to the window but it wouldn't hold just with that, I guess it's not strong enough, so I cut a piece of thick foam and put it between itself and the cover, having the cover pressing against the sensor towards the window. I am not waiting for an appointment at a dealership just to sit there for 2 hours so they can tell me "yeah, missing piece, we'll order it, come back when it arrives".
BTW - the sensor is so sensitive that if it breaks away from the window by even a hair it won't work.

@Ford Motor Company - You are really screwing it up. Your craftsmanship and quality control, at least with my truck, and based on this thread alone, is simply non existing. Extremely disappointing.

My wish is different. My wish is that giant Ford could improve their QC and find out why the hell so many luxury trucks leave their assembly lines with a freaking sensor not attached at all or partially attached....clearly many, many trucks have the same problem with Rain Sensing Wipers, so something ISN'T WORKING RIGHT in the assembly line, for crying out loud!

@Ford Motor Company - Do you want our VIN numbers, perhaps, to see if you can assist?
