2021 F150 3.5L Ecoboost. I opened the hood today before I was going to start washing my truck and the engine cover is literally falling apart. There are pieces of foam everywhere in the engine. I have never seen anything like this.

Rodent damage was also my first thought based on the pattern of damage. Also when foam disintegrates it doesn’t typically do so in chunks but rather decomposes into a powdery mess. When you handle the foam is it otherwise still solid? If so I would say there was a critter going to town on it.

I agree with those thinking it’s a critter.

No damage to any of the wires and didn’t see any droppings. I’ve never seen a rodent around my house that’s why I didn’t even think about that. The chunks are still pretty solid. Thanks for your help hopefully Ford won’t charge an arm and leg for this.

Probably no comfort to you, but a friend just had a rodent chew up his 2020 Toyota wiring. Dealership charged him $1700 to replace a bunch of wires. A critter is not a manufacturers fault; however, a GOOD dealership will generally work with you.

But then if it's living in your house you have the smell of a dead animal in your walls. Traps with peanut butter always worked for me with mice, rats are a different beast though.
The smell goes away eventually. The foam will not rebuild itself ?

Poisoned animals generally search out water. So, seldom actually die in the walls. If you really want to find them, keep water in the kitchen sink ?. My ex-wife about peed herself. She'll never do that again.

Some poisons are fast!! The critter will be right there on top of your engine, DRT! I think I would go for a small live trap baited with peanut butter. You will know with some level of certainty what did the damage and you can be the judge of what to do with the perpetrator. I would also reset the trap, you might have a mated pair.
