Loose Plastic Cover Found in Engine Compartment?

While having my hood open to charge a dead battery, I found a rubber band just laying loose, and then I noticed a loose clear plastic cover hanging out next to the steering shaft.

Anyone know if this is supposed to go somewhere (presumably to cover something), or perhaps it was left over from the assembly process?

That looks like an electrical plug protector, likely left over from the assembly process. It would be used to protect the pins on a male plug during manufacture and shipping of wiring harnesses.

I found one in my engine too. Took to the service department in the dealership and they can’t figure out what it is. So what did you do to it? Was it supposed to be covering something?

I'd say assembly leftover. I had a black plastic piece used in fender assembly inside my fender.

Look under hood for big fat wiring harness connector if you are really curious. I'd guess the fuse box but I can't remember what side that is on.

Funny enough, I found these same piece on my 2024 XLT PB, it was laying underneath the oil filter. I changed the oil this past weekend and dropped my wrench and found this cover when I was retrieving the wrench.
