Is there a reason this version isn’t available on the motorcraft website? It’s showing 46.5.4…Will 46.5.4 not work?
It won't work anymore. It has to be the latest version.

Thanks @rugedraw Why wouldn’t the latest version be on the motorcraft website? What website is it on?
46.5.4 is the latest. The one in my post was 45.6.8 so it seems like you were in the right place.

The link to the mongoose doesn't seem to have the Ford Wired option anymore. Can I use one of the other ones? I see a bluetooth option for Ford but I wouldn't trust wireless on a software update.

If you go to the mongoose website the bluetooth option is also wired and included. but you are going to pay about $90 more for the bluetooth one over the wired only one.

After 2 days of updates, I got updated all the way to version 22293. My 2021 first build was stuck in that empty SYNC version that could not update. The first APIM update I ran to knock it loose did not even require me to drive around for three weeks, it ran the update right when I plugged it into the USB, so I was happy about that.

I did have a brief stall out once I got to 22087, but let the truck sit overnight. The next day when I hit run, it gave me the same “data unavailable” message. I then hit the “refresh” button next to “run” and hit “yes” when it asked me if I wanted to redownload. It seemed to redownload the APIM and reset things and then it let me run the update. 2 more APIM updates later and some gwm and tcu updates and now I am on 22293 with no further updates available.

Do we actually think that Ford will ever allow an update past this as it seems the SSM is a bit ominous? Seems like a possible marketing move to cut support for older models and get folks to buy newer trucks. Especially since folks with older trucks already have the newer versions of SYNC with no issues.

I’d really like the new sync design of 23291, are we all at the mercy of dropping $120 randomly every so often just to find out if we have an update? Or should we probably take the hint that we won’t get any more updates and live with it?

Awesome that you didn't have to wait weeks....you're one of the lucky ones. A few people got stuck at 22087 recently, too. Disconnecting the 12v battery for 20 minutes allowed them to continue the process.

Yes, eventually they will release more updates for vehicles likes yours and many others affected. It would be a good idea to speak to your service advisor and start a relationship with him or her so they can check in PTS for you every now and then to see if an update does pop up since we are no longer able to check these things for people.

below is the msg I got when i tried to buy a FDRS subscription

"IDS Licenses are no longer available for purchase. These are being phased out and replaced with Diagnostic Subscriptions. Dealership and Fleet Customers have already been set up with subscriptions, so please install the latest version of IDS and FDRS, then continue to log in with your @b2bford.com credentials. Aftermarket Customers, your IDS licenses have been converted to Subscriptions with equivalent expiration dates of your legacy IDS Licenses. You can manage your account and purchase additional subscriptions at MotorcraftService.com."

does this mean no more FDRS for individuals?

Yes, you can still get 2 day FDRS passes, but they work based off your login and not a license key anymore. Cost went up from $50 to $120.
