Key Stolen, cheapest option for replacement?

My wife's purse was stolen, canceled the credit cards, said goodbye to the cash but the keys to both our vehicles were in it

I can't lose sleep over the fact that they have my address and my truck keys, they're petty thieves that were after the credit cards, unlikely to come for the truck (and the police concurred)

But now I need to get a replacement key/fob for my 2023 F150 XLT. It looks like the picture below. It looks like you may be able to program a fob yourself, obviously(?) I'll need a locksmith to cut the blank.

In order to program a FOB on your own, you need 2 working remotes. If you didn't make a spare, the dealer or possibly a higher end locksmith will have to do it.

Do you happen to have the key code that came with your original FOB's? There might be a work around if you have that.

I think there is a locksmith in Florida (ADL Hardware) that sells new aftermarket and refurbished Ford key FOB's with an uncut key for 20-65 bucks if you are leery of ebay.

FYI, just this week I programmed a 3rd FOB that I got from ebay for about 18.00 and it has the remote start button. I used some Ford Pass points to have the dealer cut the key, but they wanted 3 hours and 300 bucks to program it.

You might save a few bucks by getting after market FOB's.

I would get 2 FOB's with the remote start and have them both programmed and cut.

I hear what you're saying, but still wonder what cost / effort is involved in rendering the stolen key useless while leaving you with multiple functioning key/ fobs?

That's a good question. It looks like on my Nissan they can't program a key to match an existing one, they reprogram all keys including the blank one, which invalidates the stolen fob.
My Nissan fits in the garage, the truck is parked up front.
And the Nissan doesn't have a physical key/blade whereas the F150 can be open and driven away with just the physical key.

It would be pretty cheap insurance for everyone to at least get an aftermarket FOB and program it so that if one original is lost, you still have 2 to program another.

In you situation it would probably be best to have the original FOB's deactivated and get new ones since the thief more than likely has your address.

Even if the original thief isn't willing to attempt to steal the truck, they could sell the key and your info. to someone who would.

Colorado has gone to shit, why I moved away from there after 40 years, 11 yrs ago. The thieves might give your keys and address to someone else to take you vehicles. I'd keep a sharp eye out to see if you're being followed for a while. Keep them in a garage for a while and watch you're cars at work. We carry boom booms where I am.

My son bought a used 2015 Mustang that only came with one FOB. He was worried that since it had a distinctive paint job and exhaust note that whomever had the other might be tempted to reclaim it.

Our local Ford dealer got him a second FOB and reprogrammed both for a couple of hundred.

They did not however provide or cut a new key blank. I ordered a blank from ebay and used some Ford points to have that one cut at a different dealer when they cut the blank for mine.

You might reach out to ADL or another large locksmith, you might get lucky.

Ah, if only truck fit in my garage, but the garage is at least 4" too short. They don't make them like they used to.

I lost a key and was in this same predicament. I ordered two "genuine" Ford key fobs from carandtruckremotes.com - They were genuine factory fobs or exact replicas, but the dealer wouldn't program them for me unless I bought the fobs from them directly. I ended up returning them and using my granger ESP w/ key replacement I forgot I had prior to the loss! I now have 3 Fobs.

Are you saying that you lost the key/fob before you purchased the ESP with key replacement coverage, then filed a claim for key replacement, and received a new key/fob, under the later purchased ESP coverage?

When my window was smashed out and everything stolen in Oregon a couple years ago, we HAD to get a new key made. The dealer was the only option as nobody had the key for the new gen trucks. The dealer was able to get the key cut and programmed for about $450, but that was in 2023 so I’m sure that price has doubled by now. They SWORE up and down they reprogrammed they keys so the missing one wouldn’t work. About 6 months later the sheriff called and said someone had found my wife’s bag and they shipped what was left back to us. The car keys were still in the bag, but they kept our house key and airstream keys (another story). Took the old key out to the truck and it worked, so the dealer either lied or has no idea what they are doing. Equal odds. Anyway, I have 3 keys now…..the expensive way. Highly recommend everyone spend the much less than $100 to make a spare key before you end up like me.

Because it might be cheaper for me to buy the equipment to reprogram 2 vehicles than to pay 2 dealers for reprogramming.

i lost my key two weeks ago, called every big dealer around DFW for key and remote w/ programming

prices vary from $380-$1000, even third party locksmiths are charging 450-800$

FYI prices vary for no apparent reason; they all do the same job. Just dealer dependent.

definitely not, such poor wording on my part! I had already purchased the ESP but forgot I had key replacement coverage on it! Worked like a charm!
