Is it normal to spray bed liner inside of the tailgate?

I'm getting a tailgate ajar error due to overspray of the liner. I'm curious if anything else was messed up. Had this done aftermarket locally at a well respected shop.

That's just crazy.... The shop definitely needs to fix that. Likely got bedliner material all up in the latch assemblies causing them to not properly close or detect the tailgate is up....

The dealer took a look at it and recommended replacing the latch assembly, but nothing else. And I think maybe only on one side I need to check again.

Most of what was sprayed in there looks to be wiring loom so shouldn't be much to worry about.

My Line-X installer removed the plastic 'work surface', masked the openings, did not spray inside the tailgate.

My Line-X dealer removed the plastic panels on my PAT and did not get overspray on the other parts of the tailgate.

There is a SSM out for your condition, they likely got overspray in a connector, this is a known problem with aftermarket spray in liners. I had an order of 5 - 2022 trucks come in with no factory bed liner and regretted it, 2 of those trucks had problems with the trailer wiring, no bed lights among other problems, the dealer found the problem all right and charged me most $4,000.00 to fix it, I was livid, as my fleet guy said not to order the factory bed liner as the truck is sent to another off site building and can sit upward of a month before the bed liner gets sprayed in, and at the time of ordering spray liners where on constraint, so I got no one to blame but myself on this one. now im worried my trailer wiring is messed up too...

Mine is a 2025 - i see the SSM mentions 2021-2022, do you think it continued?

That's what happened to 2 of the trucks liner sprayed, Ford has a catalog where they can order pigtail ends for ones that get damaged, kinda like if you get in an accident and your plug for the headlight bulb gets damaged, they can order just that plug instead of replace the whole harness. The 2 of my trucks that the bastards sprayed box liner in to didn't offer a pig tail end and one of them was that cable for the rear camera, it is a dedicated and expensive cable I found out, it cost me almost $2,000.00 a truck to fix. I took the harnesses they accidentally sprayed over to them to show them and they said it was undercoat in the harness plugs, well I don't undercoat my vehicles. I was going to sue them but when I calculated out my time and headaches caused from their negligence I just paid the dam bill and cut my losses.

That is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure you were livid.

i wish I read about these issues before I got my liner. Or maybe i should have just had it done at the dealer.

The Dealer you got recourse (usually that is) but it costs more than just going to Linex as they want a piece of the action $$$$$. Then an issue comes up like you and I had and you get thrown under the bus.

Probably not a bad thing having it sprayed behind the panel but they should have blocked out the cut outs!
