When I purchased my '25 F-150, the salesperson told me Ford will stop install auto start/stop in '27 model year vehicles. That got me to thinking... what are the chances a Ford dealer would ever make changes to disable ASS and cylinder deactivation on current vehicles? I understand these things can be accomplished with Forscan or wiring harness mods at least for the ASS, but without overbearing CAFE mandates in place, would the dealer have the freedom to make these changes? I personally would rather the dealer make the mods than for me to get in the truck's computer and tinker around.

I think the chance of that is very slim.

100% sure the dealer won't make these changes even if you offered to pay them. You can disable the auto S/S with Forscan or get an eliminator interrupt that plugs into the switch harness to remember the last state the switch was in after key off. I installed them in my 2020 Ranger and my wife's 2024 Kia and they work amazingly well.

As for removing cylinder deactivation with Forscan, I don't believe there's a way to do that. You'd need to get a custom tune for the truck from Livernoise or another vendor that has one available for it.

I guess I misunderstood the Forscan capability part. Why do you think they wouldn't take my money for the ASS?

Some might but chances are very high they won't do it citing per Ford they cannot make those types of changes.. I mean you can always give the service department of a couple dealers in the area a call and ask them. But honestly it might be cheaper to buy the cable needed for Forscan and do it yourself, or ask if someone in your local area could do it if you don't have a Windows laptop or something like that.

ASS is easy to get around, CD is another beast entirely.

I honestly don't notice the CD... probably because my exhaust isn't loud. I guess I was thinking more about the possibility of long-term issues because of it. As far as the ASS, that is totally annoying because I forget to turn it off until after the first time it stops. I also don't really want to run fulltime in sport or tow/haul.

This is why I went with the ASS eliminator for both my Ranger and wife's Kia. It allows for normal functionality of the ASS when needed but keeps it disabled for you on each key on. so you don't have to keep pressing the button each time. Pretty straight forward install too. Pop out the switch and unplug the harness to it and the eliminator plus in-line and reinstall the switch. Done in like 5-10 minutes in most cases. After that start the truck and press the switch to disable the ASS system. Then it will stay like that until the button is pressed again.

Yea there are several brands, all work fine.
I did a Magnaflow, heard CD so bad, the catback lasted maybe a week. Put the Borla Touring, nice tone, no CD "farting or gurgling".

What would be your reasoning for thinking that? Just curious.
Because it is likely still technically illegal, and ford almost certainly has a policy against it.

My ‘23 STX has a line item on the sticker for “Auto Start-Stop Removal” with -$50 discount. There’s no button on the dash for it either. I bought it used so not sure how the initial transaction went, but it appears that at least some dealers will do it.

That was done on the assembly line likely due to chip/parts shortages not at the dealer.

That’s nicely fortuitous for me. Was actually wondering about that, as I hadn’t seen another one with that done.

Illegal? Doubt that. It’s not like anybody’s cutting the cats out. Against policy, maybe.
