Have a brother that’s a mechanic. Sent me my Ford pin. Found my truck. Called the dealership. Salesmen said “we have employee pricing until July 4th and that will be better for you, but yes we do participate in x plan”. My understanding that the benefit of x plan is it is invoice price (not msrp?) +4% and caps a document fee.

how do I verify when I give my pin that it’s the correct pricing? Or that it is a better deal to not use x plan while they have the current promotion.

I suspect he’s not telling the truth as he then proceeded to tell me “they changed it a while back …you have to be a direct family member and bring in all sorts of documentation to prove it(birth certificates, etc.). The email I received from ford literally says “FRIENDS and family x plan….”

I don't know the particulars of X plan pricing, but my brother in law who works for Ford can have unlimited X plan pins through out the year. A plan, employee pricing is limited to 2 per year. the dealer has to show you the invoice which will show A plan and X plan pricing. Granger Ford does offer invoice less a certain percent. They are in the Midwest, not sure how close to you. There is lots of satisfied people on this forum that have dealt with them.

now that you mention it, I think I’d read they’ll show you “x plan” on the purchase invoice.

when people say “invoice +4%”, am I correct in assuming the invoice price is the price that specific dealership paid Ford corporate, which is going to be lower than MSRP sticker price?

You are correct, +4% adds to the price the dealer paid.

Yes, invoice is what the dealer pays for the vehicle.

My 1st question is: does your brother work at a Ford dealership? If so, why X plan instead of D plan?

I forget exactly what the current promotion is but I believe it's based on A/Z pricing which is the best, though I am unsure of how they handle the doc/misc fees vs an actual employee plan purchase.

This site has a good breakdown of the how the plan prices are calculated:

Not sure how you get A (or D?) plan since your brother works there, but can't they stack other rebates on top of the real A plan? Versus the "everyone gets" which I didn't think you could stack anything else on it.

The dealer is supposed to show you the X plan price on the invoice to confirm. That said - with Employee Pricing still going on for a few more days, you ought to be getting A plan pricing. The difference is it's not true A plan because the fees arent capped, but it's likely better than X anyway.

No sorry should have clarified. An independent shop but they do a lot of ford business so he gets 2 X- plan pins per year.
It does seem like they have decent deals right now, but I am a little distrustful because 1. He’s a salesman 2. He already kind of told me things that aren’t true (“you have to be a family member. It’s a hassle you don’t wanna deal with”).

I might just call and ask him to price it with x plan and if he can email me that vs the current promotion.

So you’re saying the A plan pricing is generally better (makes sense), but they could add random fees, but even with these fees it’s probable that the current promotion is better than x plan (where fees are capped)?

He doesn’t work directly for ford.

X plan is for suppliers. A plan is for Ford employees. D plan is for Ford DEALERSHIP employees. Z plan is retirees

A/Z plan is invoice MINUS advertising MINUS holdback PLUS $275

X plan is A plan PLUS 4% PLUS $150

D plan is A plan PLUS $100

The Ford for America program that's been going on gets you the vehicle at the A plan price, but it is not true A plan because (a) the dealer can charge their regular Doc Fee and (b) the dealer isn't doing all the paperwork required for X, A and Z. It still is a better deal though.

Hope this helps....

Is there a way to see what their doc fee is that they are charging? Is that a line item I would assume? Guessing they just mark that up, but because the base price is so much lower than normal, it nets out and is still cheaper.

I guess after hearing from some of you it does sound like the current promotion might be a better deal…

Doc fees are capped in some states. In others they aren’t. Some states (Looking at you Florida) also allow for electronic filing fees, private tag agency fees, and other nonsensical garbage. You may or may not be able to get some of these fees eliminated. The only ones that obviously are mandatory are sales tax, title, registration, tags, and any warranty rights/battery disposal/tire fees etc.

X plan is easily beatable. The employee pricing that is going on now I would hope that Ford would be overseeing the pricing and ensure that the dealer is charging correctly. JMO
