Finished updating my 2021 Lariat Poweboost via FDRS and the Mongoose loaner thanks to @rugedraw .

Following the two day marathon with a multitude of updates, my automatic running boards are acting weird.

When they extend, the passenger side sounds as if the motors continue to run about 3 seconds additional after it's already fully extended.

When they retract they are kinda out of sync with eachother, the drivers side retracts and 1 second later the passenger side retracts. Is their a way to calibrate them? Anyone had this problem?

Yea my truck does the same and many others. There is a way to calibrate them, but the extended buzzing sound won't go away. I don't remember how to calibrate them, but I'll look it up tomorrow.

What's worse is when they get stuck in a loop retracting in and out. When it happens to mine, I have to pull over, turn it off and lock it, unlock it and start it again or else they won't stop going in and out. We've told Ford about it, but they haven't done anything about it. Unfortunately, FORScan is not scripted to write to the DSM, so we can't roll the software back on trucks that get affected by the issue.

Click the DSM in FDRS and post a screenshot of all the guided routines it shows for that module. If I see it, I'm sure I'll recognize which is the one you have to run to calibrate them.

Following… Mine are out of sync when they retract as well, I have not had a chance to look into this yet.

The buzzing is the motor continuing to run. Forscan self-test will calibrate them. They should be out phase ever so slightly to avoid excessive startup current. The new DSMs don't do this w/ the last 2 software revisions. I have an old DSM w/ a spare driver's seat harness and the latest software does not fix this. I've tried everything under the sun to get it to work but the software that cannot be rolled back introduced this issue.

That's right.....the DSM seft test is what you do to calibrate them.

Correct

Have you guys looked at the following values at all? I remember seeing them when I added mine way back when but never had to mess with them after they self calibrated from the DSM test. Maybe they get out of whack for some reason and simply putting the old values in might help out?

Interesting, I tried the DSM test and no change... Out getting tacos, I'll check and post my values as soon as I get home.

If his only issue is the extended buzzing, then maybe this would work and worth s try. However, the issue where the boards get stuck on a loop going in and out until you turn off and restart the truck will not be fixed by changing config.

No loop issue, the motors run for about 3-5 seconds after they've fully extended, only occurred after the multitude of sw/fw updates via FDRS

This has been happening with my 21 for a while now. I just have the 3-5 second humming sound and don’t experience the looping. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks,

Mike

This you can fix easily with FORScan; requires rolling back the DSM to the older software. I did it to mine maybe 4-6 weeks ago and it has not happened once since then.

That hum is your motors running when they're not supposed to. Rectify it before you burn them out.

I’ve got Forscan but have no idea how to do that. Can you provide some guidance?

Thanks,

Mike

Yea I'll message you later. You'll need FORScan beta to go it.
