Let me start with, I have an enough mechanical knowledge to be a hazard to myself.

Picked up my new 5.0 STX 4x4 on 2/26 had 32 miles on it. I picked it up in the evening time and drove home not hearing this noise. 2/28 I started it up and as I went to pull out onto the road, I heard this noise but not as loud. I looked under the hood thinking something (heat shield was rubbing on the exhuast but found nothing. It was cooler on 28th which is not a given, but seems to be a factor. This video was taken after an overnight stay (44F) and it didn’t do it leaving. We drove 2 hours home, parked it for 4 hours and when I went back out it was doing it as you see and hear. I’m heading to the dealership in the morning but the issue is if it doesn’t do it, while I’m there, they’ll have to keep it til it does it and at this rate that could be a week and I need my truck.

I’ve read this could be a starter not disengaging, or a heat shield against exhaust. It does it idle, and moving. Fans off, nothing on the pulleys. It does get louder under load, but it’s doesn’t seem to have a rhythm to make me think it’s not internal other than maybe the fly wheel or torque converter.

Mine did that around the same mileage also but it happened to be cold af outside. I thought it was related to that. Which I knew was stupid to think, but it went away after the car came up to temp and it no longer did it after a few days and a few hundred miles. I never got to take it to the dealer and it never happened again. I also didn't see any chatter on here about it either.

I'm not sure if the TSB applies to the 24 model year, there is a TSB for the flex plate on 5.0 liter engines, its an off chance it could be that.

You laugh, I lost a washer down an intake port of a 2004 sienna minivan once, and didn't know it. I call that washer the maytag, the most expensive washer I've ever had.

Fired it up to take to the dealership this morning 69 degrees, and same thing. Got to the dealership and of course the first service advisor said they had to duplicate it, but asked his manager if they had room just to look under.
Service manager at Helfman called in one of his advisor and showed the video I had, the advisor pulled out his phone and showed his personal 2022 2wd STX making the same noise just days after he bought it in 2022.

They put it on the lift and showed me the culprit. Apparently these threaded clips on the crossmember are for the FX4 skid plate, not standard with just the 4x4 package or 2wd. He flicked his finger against it and behold, same noise. He did advise on his 2022 there were 1 on each side down inside the frame rails but nothing seemed to be inside on mine. So now we wait.

It’s pretty much any time any temp now. I have narrowed it down to inside the bell housing so flywheel or torque converter are hitting on something. It doesn’t in park, drive, reverse. More when the transfer between forward and reverse are started (flexed).

Update 3/25/2025
Gullo Ford said, they pulled the inspection plate, didn’t see anything, drove it and since they couldn’t duplicate the problem, they aren’t digging into any further.

Not sure how a dealership can ignore that noise. That's ridiculous

Update 4/17/2025: Gullo said come get it because Ford advised they never heard of the issue and they don’t have time to explore the problem. Drove back to Helfman and the service manager contacted his transmission tech. After speaking with the tech, who listened to my videos, he was certain it was the torque converter hitting something. He advised he had repaired the same issue last year and there was a TSB for the issue, but my VIN wasn’t listed for it. They called today and stated they are pulling the transmission next week and will keep me posted.

There was a video on YouTube that u showed Helfman same noise, etc and the guy advised 8 days ago his dealership fixed it. Warped spacer was hitting torque converter bolt.

I'm confused. On the 14th you posted they showed you what the noise was and now you're on to the transmission?

Sorry for the late reply Larry. Yes on the 14th they looked at it, said it was these clips and next day 15th same noise. On 3/16 I climbed under it and with my wife starting it and keep her foot on the brake, putting it in reverse and drive, I was able to pinpoint it coming from the bellhousing.
