Let me start with, I have an enough mechanical knowledge to be a hazard to myself.
Picked up my new 5.0 STX 4x4 on 2/26 had 32 miles on it. I picked it up in the evening time and drove home not hearing this noise. 2/28 I started it up and as I went to pull out onto the road, I heard this noise but not as loud. I looked under the hood thinking something (heat shield was rubbing on the exhuast but found nothing. It was cooler on 28th which is not a given, but seems to be a factor. This video was taken after an overnight stay (44F) and it didn’t do it leaving. We drove 2 hours home, parked it for 4 hours and when I went back out it was doing it as you see and hear. I’m heading to the dealership in the morning but the issue is if it doesn’t do it, while I’m there, they’ll have to keep it til it does it and at this rate that could be a week and I need my truck.
I’ve read this could be a starter not disengaging, or a heat shield against exhaust. It does it idle, and moving. Fans off, nothing on the pulleys. It does get louder under load, but it’s doesn’t seem to have a rhythm to make me think it’s not internal other than maybe the fly wheel or torque converter.
