2024 F150 RCSB 4x4 2,000 miles

Did my first break in oil change using Ford oil and filter. I also changed the diff oil using Valvoline full syn 75-140.

ALL of my trips are short, less than five miles, so I always remote start my truck and allow it to warm up until the initial idle drops. As a result, my mpg is pretty horrible. Usually around 11.8 mpg but sometimes lower.

Now, at 2,200 miles I notice the mpg is 12.3/12.4, a solid .5/.6 mpg better. I imagine the improvement would be even better if I used my truck like a normal well adjusted and fully functing human. ?

Anyway, I’m impressed with the product and will be using it in all of my vehicles.

No, I am not associated with Ceratec and no I do not have an affiliate link and no I have not tried other additives and no I do not know if it could possibly cause some other damage. YMMV.

Are you suspecting the improvement in fuel economy is due to the additive and not just the usual reduction in internal engine friction usually experienced within the few thousand miles?

Yes exactly. You make a great point but this was a sudden and almost immediate improvement. I’m sure break in is a factor and possibly the full sun in the diffs.

The internal friction of the engine is the only efficiency fuel improvement that any friction modifier additive can influence. Negating all other assumptions, let’s says it had 100% improvement in that area. The main bearings are already floating on a film of oil, so no real benefit there….mainly the cams and running gear that may be impacted. The losses there are a small percentage of the overall absorbed power that comes from driving the vehicle. I can’t see how adding a friction modifier would save you gas in any meaningful way. Just my thoughts. I suspect there’s something else at play.

And yet it appears to have done so. Granted, only a 4% improvement but still, I’ll take it.

I’m afraid correlation does not imply causation, but let’s say this is true in this case. Why wouldn’t every engineer in the anutomo industry make this change…they spend millions on air dam skirt tunnel testing, intake designs that decrease pumping losses and improve efficiency by fractions of a percent. Why not just go to the local Walmart and buy a $20 bottle of additive. if you believe the additive caused a 4% decrease in fuel consumption then I suspect the marketing team have done their job. Either way, I’m happy you got the 4%, maybe the trend will continue and it improves further.

All the best,

A lot of the high performance car guys swear by it. I've never used it, so I googled it to find some reviews and came across this test. Its a FB vid so I don't know if it will actually be viewable. On a turbo car, they really need to show more data, like IAT and ambient temps but it is generally regarded as good stuff...

Wow! That’s really impressive. I can’t remember where I heard about this product but literally everything I read was positive so I ordered a couple of bottles a couple of months ago in anticipation of trying it at my first oil change. I completely forgot I had added it until I noticed the mpg improvement.

If you decide to use this stuff, there’s one thing you should remember. Let a shop know you are using this if you go in for any kind of engine work. This stuff alone can create two different nature reactions with newer and inexperienced technicians.

First off, it makes the oil look like creamy coffee mocha. More of the color and not the thick goop consistency.
Secondly, the ceramic has a high sheen to it that will create a metallic type sheen to the oil. This can also create a rather favorable reaction from an inexperienced or new technician.
