So living in the Toronto area, we get a LOT or road salt used in the winter. I am the kind of guy that keeps my vehicles as long as they are not starting to cost too much in repairs. I hope to get 10 years out of my 2024 F150. I have watched the many YouTube videos and reviews of the various undercoating sprays, and I think I will go with the Fluidfilm option. I plan to get them to just spray the frame and undercarriage areas, and not inside the doors. The bodies of these things seem to not need any special treatment since it’s aluminum and I don’t want the spray creep and dirt that comes out of the bottoms of doors. I also have an interlock stone driveway so I don’t want anything to drip. I also don’t want a lot of smell, but I understand that the lanolin sprays do have a bit of funk to them for a while.

I was hoping for some real experienced advice from the F150 crowd on this plan. What are the collective thoughts on rustproof options and recommendations?

I would do the fluid film. You just need to put some cardboard down underneath, to protect the driveway from the drips. No matter which kind of protection you put on you will have drips. The smell is not bad and usually only lasts about a week. Did my truck right after bringing her home and doing the lowering kit. Made it through the salt just fine!

When looking for a truck in ‘21 I saw a few Canadian trucks. Holy cow were they rusty underneath. I feel for you. There is a lot of salt here in Michigan too, not to your level, but still it does take its toll.

There are a lot of opinions on this topic. I have been using Fluid Film and reapply it yearly in the fall. Anywhere I can get the extended tube (about 2 ft long) into gets a good coating. I prob use 6 cans a year. I do see the fluid creep all over the frame which I see as a good thing. The grimier the better as I know there is a shield preventing corrosion. You seldom see lots of rust on frame members getting coated by a leaking engine or transmission.

I have seen some YT influencers using something from Amsoil that sprays on but dries and does not attract dirt. I have no experience with it but you may want to check it out as well.

Tested fluid film and it's held on for a year without issues. Does make it annoying to work on things under there with the fluid film getting on me but other than that it is fine. Picks up a coat of dust on it but does the job fine protecting underneath and it will creep. I used the fluid film black product in aerosol cans but some on YouTube use an air compressor to do the job.

I just wash the truck a couple of times per week in the winter, salt season. Touchless car wash with a underbody sprayer. With 30 lt or more fill..$9.00. I'm too dam old to crawl around under my truck and spay it.

Krown rustproofing is what I went with. I get yearly re-applications in May.

I went with Corosion Free. Its has an 18 month reapply, no drip, and has no smell* like lanolin based sprays have. So far it seems to work but only time will tell.

*There will be a burning smell from overspray on the exhaust for a bit and it's unavoidable with any spray on undercoating.

I’ve used Fluid Film with good results on my Jeep in the past. On this truck however I use Blaster Surface Shield which is also lanolin based but does not stink as bad and supposedly lasts longer.

I got my 2024 in November and after reading up and discussing with local auto enthusiasts I decided to do the fluid film. Had it done by a local shop outside Kitcher ON. Seemed to hold up well over winter even with using the automatic car wash every other week. There definitely is a barn type smell to it, and parking inside the garage was a smelly experience for the first few weeks.

P'Blaster Surface Shield. Reviews on YouTube indicate that it lasts longest.

We’ve had our vehicles done with Krown in Orillia for years with good results. We are now in Manitoba and when we bought our F150 Powerboost in 2021 I was concerned about getting the coating everywhere due to all the hybrid aspects so I bought spray cans of Krown and did the frame myself. I spray the frame and cross members thoroughly each fall and it’s like new. I find this stuff creeps very well and protects every nook and cranny. With a cavity wand the inside of the rails are pretty easy to do. I do get get some dripping but I suspect it’s because I spray a ton in there. No smell which I like.

Where did you pick up the Krown from?

We still get our CRV sprayed by the Krown dealer just east of Winkler and I get the spray cans there. Krown Reinfeld.
