As the title says, my fold down shifter wouldn't raise when I pushed the button. I got home from work Monday morning, parked the truck, dropped the shifter down and went inside to get some sleep. Got out in the afternoon to head to work and couldn't get the shifter to raise up. Tried starting and stopping the truck, pressing the brake, releasing the brake, opening and closing the door and nothing worked. Had to drive the girlfriend's Jeep Cherokee to work for the night. Decided to do some research and found a couple of threads on this site related to the shifter not working properly. One of them suggested disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and then trying again. So after I got off work this morning, when I got home, I pulled the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes and then reconnected it and voila!, I was able to raise the shifter up and it seems to be working properly again. Not sure what happened, but I'll be keeping an eye on it. I thought it might have had something to do with adding the ambient lights and media bin lights as I pulled the shifter assembly out while I routed wires to keep them hidden from normal eyesight. Everything had been fine for 4 days until this. I also checked the date on my battery (8-26-24) and my build date was 9-1-24 so I'm hoping it isn't the battery. Oh well, that's what warranties are for. Just thought I'd let everyone know what happened in my case and how I resolved it.

There was another thread recently where someone had a similar problem.

There is a new TSB for this. Web search for Ford TSBs and you should find. Hopefully they can take care of it for you.

Thanks, Jerome10. I saw that mentioned but I had on trouble codes stored or anything like that so not sure what they can do except just change it out. I may look into it if it happens again.

I just never fold down my shifter. Problem solved. ?

I know, that wasn't helpful. But I don't have the work surface, so I really have no need to lower the shifter. Hope you get it replaced if it acts up again. Seems to be the best solution.

This is going to be my solution once the Expedition shifter gets developed. I'll probably add the lighted cupholders at the same time.

I've been looking at the same thing. My only concern is if the wiring is a direct plug-in for the rotary knob as it is for the fold down shifter. I'll be watching that thread as I've pulled my shifter out once and know how it's done now. I pulled it out when I added the ambient lighting to the cup holders last week to run wires for the lights under the seats. I want to get a wiring diagram for the Expedition to see if the connector is the same and the wiring is the same.

Now see my gutter mind went somewhere else, like asking girlfriend to get it to rise etc
I will take 3 days in the box boss
For a gutter mind at 830 Alex

My 22 I bet less than 3 times did I ever fold it down..
It seemed flimsy in it's operation so it stayed in the upright position

I had a problem on a new 2024. Shifter would not fold down. It was a Gear Shift Module. The replacement is about 1 1/2 hours with 2 hour system down load. If the module goes out you’ll be stuck. My advice is have the dealer replace the module before it goes out completely. Other poster is correct about a TSB issued in February

I never fold mine down due to this same fear. We travel a lot pulling our RV. The last thing I want is for this to happen while on the road.

Agreed lol. No folding shifter at all OR work surface + folding shifter should have been the ONLY available option.

This happened to me in my 2021 PB.
We had to get it towed to the dealership and they fixed it. It was the gear shift module.
It’s a pain because you have to go through the gear shift override process as it won’t come out of gesr.
Someone has to sit in the car and hold the little lever as it wouldn’t stay out of gear without holding it.

You can't remove the shifter while it's folded down (at least I can't figure out how to raise it to get to the front bolt), but you can pop the side cover off and unplug it. Then you could plug in a second shifter (either a folding F150 shifter or a much smaller rotary shifter from a bronco sport) and at least drive it to the dealership instead of having it towed.
