So kind of funny at 70 MPH the stock tires were running 2 MPH lower then GPS showed. Now the new tires show 1 mph over at 70 MPH. I have made no adjustments in Forescan. So you went slightly larger than stock, yes? Did you adjust the tire size in FORScan so it knows you're traveling faster now? That will affect your MPG calculations. I went with 275/65 and when I'm on the highway, it's a 2mph difference. Truck thinks I'm going slower.
The lack of forscan adjustments would only make a difference on the truck reading. Seems like far too much a top in MPG without something being offSo kind of funny at 70 MPH the stock tires were running 2 MPH lower then GPS showed. Now the new tires show 1 mph over at 70 MPH. Makes sense to me if you had worn out your previous tires, which would make them smaller in size and you'd be traveling a slightly lesser distance with each rotation, compared to new. Then switching up to a larger tire (and it's new) you'd see a slightly higher speed. My GPS tends to show about 2mph more than the truck speedo. I'm sure that will go down to 1mph once I've burned off some of that tire's tread, making the circumference smaller. So kind of funny at 70 MPH the stock tires were running 2 MPH lower then GPS showed. I got a set of 275/60/r20 in the Extra Load installed yesterday at my local discount tire. Felt great, but I noticed today a vibration at highway speeds around 70mph+ similar to you. I'm going to take it in for a rebalance, hoping that will fix mine too. Other than that, they are great! riding quiet, smooth, and seem to have great grip. Interested to see if mine get even quieter after a few hundred miles. Do you have the XL or SL? What PSI are you running them at?I now have about 1500 miles on them. They have gotten quieter which is apparently not uncommon. Hauled a 6K car hauler / VW Tiguan for about 200 miles the other day and stable as can be. Vibration was cured with a rebalance. I'm happy.
My truck is fairly new. The oem tires I took off only had a couple thousand miles on them.Makes sense to me if you had worn out your previous tires, which would make them smaller in size and you'd be traveling a slightly lesser distance with each rotation, compared to new. That's what I had to do on my Recon Gs. Around the beginning of fall, I had them set to 37 due to a slight vibration at around 70mph. So far, they have been smooth at freeway speeds.Mine are not LT. The Discount Tire guys said they need 500-600 miles to settle in. The vibration is gone now - whether from the rebalance or the fact that I have about 1200 miles on them is open to discussion.
I’m running mine at 36 cold which comes up to 39 or so once they get hot.
Would you mind taking some photos of your truck from the same angles as you did with your MTs?Initial impressions of the G3
275/70/18 (LT version) G3's installed. Running them at 38 psi cold right now but will chalk them to see if I need to adjust. I will say that they blow the Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP away for a daily driven pickup. They are quieter and took ALOT less weight to balance. The guys at Discount Tire let me know that each tire took between 1.5 and 3 ounces compared to 8-13 ounces for my previous Mickey Thompsons that were warrantied. Quite the difference.
My son let me know that the G3's make a little more noise than the Rocky Mountain A/T's, but I couldn't tell a difference. They were nice, inexpensive tires but they had a slight flat spot issue on cold mornings, so I returned them inside the 30 day window. Snow and slush performance between these two tires are also very similar. I would rate them both very highly and say they are both as good as it gets without going to a dedicated winter tire.
The Nitto seems to be a great tire so far. Made in the USA, 52 pounds for an LT tire is lighter than most other options, and they are smooth as silk so far. They are definitely several steps forward from the old G2's I had on a previous pickup. If they don't weather crack and last for 50k miles, I will be a satisfied customer.![]()
I recently got G3s in 275/65R20 in SL - about 14lbs lighter per corner than my 285/65R20 KO2s. My mpgs are also low for what I thought shedding 14 lbs a corner would be. Actually may have taken a small hit compared to the KO2s but I havent gone though a full tank yet.Yes, but I don't know how much. I started tracking and logging my gas mileage in May when the chart starts. Our other hybrid vehicle that averaged > 42 MPG during the summer is averaging around 37 MPG now. We have had 3 hybrids now and it seems like hybrids might take a slightly larger hit to gas mileage during the winter than ICE vehicles do.
The 295’s do look better, but I definitely prefer better MPG’s from the lighter, smaller 275’s.Would you mind taking some photos of your truck from the same angles as you did with your MTs?
I've been looking for some comparative pics of 295/70 vs 275/70 to see how the overall stance changes between the two.
I did a lot of tire research. I wouldnt go with the Nitto due to wear concerens. Check out Bridgestone Duelers. Great tire. Costco has them on sale now. Grrrrreat tires !! ScottNiito Terra Grappler G3
Was curious if anyone has mounted these on their truck and what your thoughts are.
I'm really liking what I see and down here, the wet performance is important and quietness of the tires is a bonus. Plus I'd like to go slightly bigger, to the 275/65 R20.
