Hi everyone,

My 22 f150 is at the dealer for transmission issues. I would like to know how long did the dealer take to diagnose your transmissio issues? It has been almost a full week and still in the diagnostics stage. Service advisor told me today that the truck is in the "PORTAL". I'm not 100% sure what that means.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The diagnostic work should be done in an hour or so. Sometimes there's a lengthy symptom tree... But at the end of the day the computer in the hands of a tech who's trained on it should be done in an hour or so. My bet is they've gotten to the end and don't know what to do because the results say little... Just speculating.

I agree...I wish they were not around the bush like that. Just be straight forward.

I wish it was that fast here in DFW. Everyone else said "2weeks" before they can look at it.

Mine has been in the shop for 3 weeks as of today. They told me last night they're finally going to dig into it today.

first time i took truck in, took about 1.5 weeks to diagnose. Result was to replace transmission, told me to pick up the truck until the transmission came in. New trans took 3 months to come in. Took truck back and took them 2-3 days to replace. My truck is back in the shop again now with trans issues on new trans. So far, been a week, and i dont think the truck has even moved from the parking spot they left it.

In the portal, sounds like a path to hell
4hrs tops to run trouble tree, plus a road test if required
Take some honey to dealer
Be firm request to see documents on what has or hasn't been done
Did you get a rental or loaner ?

I have a great dealer, however
Vague responses to inquiries is not an acceptable response if I ask about an issue.

If they plugged everything in to ford,
Ask if ford is holding up answers..
Which is very often a part of the solution tree or dead branch of vague responses

Holly cow! What a nightmare. Did you get an updated trans atleast?

No to the loaner since they do not have any on the lot. There is an average of 15 day waiting period for a loaner at any Ford dealer in my area as of last week. IMO....Ford needs to open up a dedicated service center for all these issues for our $60k+ trucks. Don't get me wrong I still love my truck, I just don't like the service centers since they are always backed up.

Finally got my estimate back from the dealer. Took my breath away. Hard to trade in a truck that has a basically in-op transmission.

I've been criticized for doing transmission fluid & filter changes early. Like each 15,000 miles. Yet my view of the world is that there is a real possibility of dirt & debris finding its way into the transmission. I know Ford set a higher standard of cleanliness in manufacturing this transmission. Yet think about it: manufacturing, packaging for shipment, un-packaging at the assembly pant, moving the transmission to the assembly line, installing the transmission in the truck, filling the transmission with fluid. At each step there is a possibility of something getting in. Keep in mind that the transmission is a hydraulic machine. Clearances are really tight in the spool valves and some other places. If even fine dust gets in it can disrupt the smooth movement of just one of these. That can throw a real monkey-wrench into the inner workings and hidden mechanisms of the great sidereal clockwork. :)) ) Interestingly, my dealer who asked why I wanted the changes of oil & filter early, has now remarked that I have one of their trucks with the least transmission problems of any that went out the door. Oh, and By The Way, think about a seal leak of one drop per mile... Then add up how much transmission fluid leaks out by 150,000 miles. I had that kind of seal leak on my front axle and it was down from 2 qts to 1/2 qt in the differential when noticed... I was headed for a major failure. Do the math and at least have your fluid level checked several time along the way to 150,000 miles. And you know maybe changing that fluid early might be good for your truck.

Mine had been changed for the third time, probably every 30K miles, prior to this.
