Cabin air filter soaking wet

If not the windshield check under the hood, there is a small drain hole where the metal cowl connects to the inner fender. Mine was clogged and water would drip from the truck for days then would leak in to the cabin filter.

Is this drain just this hole circled? There's no tube behind it that needs clearing? Same on the driver's side too?

Pretty much yes but it's actually more like two smallish notches than actual holes holes with a gap between them and inner fender. These are very easily clogged with debris and it's an absolute PIA to remove the plastic covering the cowl to clean from the top side. I'd take a picture of this area on mine since it's much easier to see but my truck is in the shop because it has developed a driveshaft issue.

This just happened to me. Ton of rain here in Florida and water on passenger floor. Has anyone tried drilling more holes for the water to drain? I don't see why that would be a problem.

Also why wouldn't the air cabin filter door be water tight with a seal so the water even if it did get in there not leak on to floor. What an incredibly p!$$ poor design by Ford. Honestly it's just pathetic. If I had a warranty claim on this and it was denied I would be livid

I considered doing the same thing but figured it's easy enough to just check the drain every few months and clean as needed. Plus it'd be a bit of a pain to get a drill in there unless you are able to reach it from the top after removing the cowl plastic covering the well.

When I discovered the issue on mine and went to inspect the cabin filter before opening the door cover I saw where water had gotten all over the wiring harness plugs just below the filter door. Clearly it's not sealed well enough to prevent water intrusion from there.

Why not just drill a few holes next to the existing hole. Easy to get too. You don't need to touch the cowling . I put silicon on my air box door door to seal better. Not silicon the dries but plumbers silicon. I also put a small super absorbable towel right underneath the air box. I then put a towel in the tray that holds the ambient foot well light. Once a month I will just swing the glove box open and check for moisture.

That hole is so small you might think it's fine. I was shocked at the amount of dirt that came out of mine. I flushed it with a hose and coat hangar for 20 minutes. Rather have the towels for a backup because what a freaking mess to clean that water

Thanks. Hopefully it'll help others if they run into this issue. Which seems pretty likely. I was at the dealership getting new cab vents and my service writer stopped to ask how mine was doing since the rear end repair and she mentioned that they have had 5 F150's come in with this very issue last week alone since we had a ton of rain. Ford's not honoring any warranty on any of them... Stated that this is due to lack of maintenance on the owner's part.

Do we all need to go drill holes into $50k trucks to fix a design flaw?

Is Ford saying owners should be doing clean outs on that little hole as part of maintenance ? Does the owners manual mention it anywhere, hah!

Thanks I will look at that and keep in in mind on my truck. Must be maintenance that should be know by osmosis. Ford's stance on this reminds me of GM on my previous truck. Engine oil cooler lines are covered on powertrain warranty, but not transmission cooler lines.
