I test drove a RAM before buying my PB. The lack luster performance and terrible gas mileage were enough not to choose it. They do have a nicer interior than the Fords do. I also test drove a 2025 RAM Rebel. The Hurricane engine is really an improvement over the HEMI's, but I wouldn't buy the first year of anything with a new powerplant in it. The 8 speed ZF transmission is superior to the 10 Speed in the Ford's for sure
The PB is hard to beat. It’s amazing and if it’s relatively reliable over the years, I think I’ll be very happy with it.

I really hoped Ram had a regular cab short bed with any V-8 since I wanted to make my own Sport Truck..I loved my SRT-10 Quad cab but just don't need or want the extra cab. There's a reason a truck sits on a lot a year or two. Bad color overpriced damaged in shipping ect ect. I will say inspect any new one that has sat for that long.. very very carefully.
If it has any miles at all the chances it was beat on like a 'Rented Mule' as my Granddad used to say are high.

I'm probably jaded a bit, but I don't think manufacturers build anything anymore that is designed to be reliable over the years.

1- the complexity of these vehicles makes them inherently less reliable. If you want reliable, buy a first generation Toyota Tundra or a Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 cummins and a 6 speed manual from pre 2007

2- Manufactures don't want you to keep your truck for 20 years, they want you to buy a new one every 5 years. As long as it lasts beyond the warranty period, that is all they care about.

Whatever the maintenance schedule is, cut that in half if you want your truck to last.

You are so right, man. Everything these days is designed to not last anymore. I wonder if from the beginning I should have just tried to get a 2021 Tundra. But hey, maybe I can convince my wife to let me get a new truck every five years. I doubt it, but I might try anyways!

The power, the features, the capability, the efficiency etc. are all really great in these PB F150's, but there are a million and 1 systems and shit going on behind the scenes every time you fire it up- there just isn't any way that all of it can continue to work properly for years or decades without intervention. If you really want to keep it for 5+ years, get yourself the longest Ford Extended warranty that you can purchase

I wanted a ram before I also got the same exact f-150 as you… leather and the lack of leafs in the back is nice in the rams, but I drove 3 and all of them had lifter tick and they were dog slow. Also the sales people were of lower quality, they didn’t take me seriously over there because I’m younger. I don’t have time for crap like that.

I hear you man. I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to anything, but if I am not shown respect or taken seriously, that’s a quick way to lose me as a customer.

I loved the PB as soon as I read about it. When I saw an opportunity to get one under msrp at a local dealer, I was intrigued enough to ask about it. XLT 302A. The sales team was great and I was pretty immediately interested. My trim has all the features that are important to me. I’ve always planned to update my sound system and if I ever want leather seats, I’ll just get Katzkin seats. The Ram I would get would be a bit more luxurious, but I’ve never cared much about that anyways. My F-150 is plenty comfortable and luxurious for me

Wise and reasonable idea. I need to do that.

Great point. I currently do not have an extended warranty with my Ford (I know, I am stupid). I also cannot purchase one from Granger because I am in CA.

How do Ram and Ford extended warranties compare?

My dad has had zero issues thus far with this his 2007 Tundra, but maybe trucks like that just don’t exist anymore with all of the electronics in them now
I'm in CA also.
Food for thought-
Your 2023 has a 3 Year bumper to bumper and 5 year power train warranty from Ford, yes? So there is nothing to worry about for those coverage time frames. And hopefully your truck is a solid and reliable one so you won't be taking it in very often. Maybe never!
In California, if you buy an "extended warranty" from the dealer you buy the truck from, it's actually from a third party. They are not actually warranties, and not from the manufacturer. They are Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policies. State law requires insurance policies to be sold by licensed insurance brokers (thanks CA). And the dealers do not tell you that. Plus, it's just another money grab for the dealer. You can buy a policy yourself later from any company you want. Minus added dealer markup.
For my 2022, I researched a fair bit last year and found Endurance Warranty Services was pretty highly rated (haha, says "warranty" right in the name! Marketing at its finest). I'm not affiliated with Endurance, just stating my observation. I seem to have deleted the email with the quote, so I can't tell you how much it was. When I talked with the guy who called, I told him I wasn't gonna do anything until maybe 2025 since there is 3 year bumper to bumper manufacturer warranty. He said that's a good idea. Also said if someone buys an 8 year 100k warranty for example, or a Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policy in California, it's really only 5 years, because the manufacturer warranty covers everything for the first three years anyway. The other thing with most Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policies is that you can choose your repair shop. I get that most folks would prefer that warranty repairs are done at the dealer. I'm inclined that way as well considering how complex these trucks are. It's hard not to ask the question, who knows Ford better? But after the Manufacturer warranty periods are up, it is not necessary. Local independent shops with highly skilled techs do exist. With a MBI policy in CA, you still could take the vehicle to the dealer if you wanted to.

Thank you for all of the info! I should really research some companies and get some quotes. I’m just hoping I got one of the good units! I’m only 6,500 miles in, but so far it’s been great. I would like to consider a warranty soon.
I’m hoping that with Ford increasing PB production, there will be more Ford techs (maybe also some independent shops) who are trained/familiar with repairing them

I drove every truck before I got my f150. The ram definitely has a nicer ride, but for some reason the gas was extremely touchy on it which made it feel extremely twitchy.

I would only trade in for the new hurricane i6 because i have the 3.5EB right now. If I had the powerboost I wouldn't even consider it

I do believe the i6 has been used in the wagoneer for a little while now, it's a tried and true engine configuration. The powerboost is also a first generation product
