I haven't seen the disclaimer, but yea, probably lawyer speak?

I actually agree that unless you have the phone/device in a place that doesn't take your eyes off the road, it's not a good idea to monitor a bunch of realtime information. :)

@Snakebitten Hey Bruce, thanks for the OBDLink info. I got one and it found the same current Trouble Code as the dealer found. The techs only work on the current TC's and will maybe look at non-current TC's in the history if they seem related, but are told to only focus on the current ones. But it makes me think owning the OBDLink Max+ might be very handy if I have an issue while on a long trip towing a travel trailer.

I have a 2023 PB but set the OBDLink for a 2022. Things seem to work, but as I add PIDs I have found that the basic 12v voltage PID does not work. Using BECM_12VBatVolt it always shows 142.0, and never changes whatsoever, with ICE on or not, etc. Do you think it has something to do with a 2023 vs a 2022, like the PID is actually for something else for a 2023? It is also interesting that when I Add Display for the Radial, the default Max value says 127.5, yet mine displays 142.0. Here are a couple of screens, one is my display and one is from turbopilot I think:

@Snooker_ML

Welcome to the light side. :)
Where at least some light is shown on what's going on under the hood, so to speak.

Ok, that's really crazy that you aren't getting a "normal" value for the BECM's 12V Battery voltage reading.

Just out of curiosity, there are several PIDs that are reading the 12V voltage at various modules that you might try, just to compare.

Try this one:

The BCM PID worked properly. Now it looks like the BECM one is showing 10x the correct value, and is different by 1% often. I'll just use the BCM one thanks!

I have a '22 3.5 EB, and I am seriously considering purchasing a OBDLink M+ scanner/adapter (and my phone is an Android device). I have some reservations regarding pulling the trigger on this purchase for several reasons:
1) I'm not a techie (I've read all of the entries on this thread, and I don't understand what is being discussed in a fair amount of it - but also wasn't ready to do a deeper dive to educate myself at that particular time).
2) I have read where some people have had bad experiences (perhaps their own fault?), and have bricked their computer using this. THAT scares me!
3) This product strikes me as being very sophisticated - way more capabilities than what I am looking for (at least currently).
4) They seem to take a lot of dings for their Customer Service/Tech Support, which I fear I may need.

My interest, at least as of now, is primarily for when I am towing. I'd love to be able to see Turbo Boost, Trans Temp (numerical display), Coolant Temp (numerical display), live MPG, and engine timing (I'm aware that the trans temp and coolant temp numerical values can be addressed through FORScan). Using something like this seems to be the way to achieve what I'm looking for. Perhaps as I get more comfortable with it, I would venture off into other features.

Anyone want to take a shot at calming my concerns?

In the preliminary looking around that I've done, I get the impression that there is a proper way to plug it in and get it going, so I assume that - like a computer - there is a proper way to shut MX+ down, and/or remove it - but I haven't found that procedure yet.

Let's just say that I committed to one of the choices enough to invest substantial time in editing the default gauge graphics.

I'm still one PID shy of my Ngauge tuner that I am going to retire. (oil pressure) I'm sure that it's probably a complicated calculation, but it's obvious that it exists because both the Ngauge and full version of Forscan has the PID.

But here is my current dashboard in Obdlink on an Android phone. The top portion is all ICE related and follows the factory instrument cluster color motif. Or at least I'm still tinkering with it towards that goal. (the vacant spot is for an A/F ratio gauge to replace the Lambda gauge I have been using there.

The bottom half is all Hybrid/EV information and it's fascinating once you become intimate with the relationship between HV current and SOC. You can easily learn to milk the driving conditions that you see out the windshield that the blind truck's logic can't.

How did you get SOC please?

Thanks for the info but I don't have that as an option(BCM). So now i am wondering if this will have to be a user defined .

That SOC is for the High Voltage battery in the Powerboost Hybrid.

It wouldn't apply to a 2012 Ranger.

Are you looking for SOC of the 12V battery?

Yes I am looking for the SOC for a 2021 Ranger
I have to proof my typing.

In that case you do not have a High Voltage battery, therefore no PID to monitor the SOC of that battery.

Does your OBDLink app have the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury enhancement package?
If so, I honestly don't know what the folks at OBDLink have managed to open up for the 2021 Ranger. But I imagine that they have most everything covered.

Yes it has the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury enhancement package but the BCM has no nothing

@Snakebitten Bruce, thanks for the OAR formula (obtained by my usual lurking?), so to hopefully return the favour, and because I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, what follows is Oil pressure in psi.

If it doesn't exist in your Ford PID set, it may be because I bought the 2023 set when I bought OBD Fusion (the "OBDLink" app is OBD Fusion, at least on iOS):
