But maybe the truck shake when idling at a stoplight going from E to ICE (what feels like a tractor trailer shifting side rocking if you've ever driven one) is the BISG, but when in motion it is the HVB system ?
Yes, when in motion the EV motor is "bump-starting" the ICE. When not in motion it's the BISG 99% of the time, which causes that tractor-torque effect.

In looking at the picture that seems to alternately show the BISG and another item, I infer that Ford now has a regular, old Alternator in place of that BISG.

Huh?

The Powerboost never had a belt drive alternator and the 2024 still doesn't. Nor does it need one.

Unless I'm just misunderstanding what you are saying. That can happen. A lot! ?

I thought the same thing for a second. But that's the driver's side turbo. Notice that there's no belt going to it. There is no "alternator" on the PB nor will there ever be one as long as there's a BFG in the driveline.

Hopefully the continued software updates render the BISG a piece of “abandoned in place “ hardware for pre-24 models.
And then I can remove it, maybe? Hopefully?

I don't think they have any interest in listening to this old man. ?

If they did, the 2024 Powerboost would have increase from 25% F150 market share to 75+!!! ?

Even a few Coyote faithful would be converted to the dark side.

No, I've said that the BISG had to be a DC machine in order to both generate and motor(ate :) ). It;s simple to make a DC machine switch back & forth. An alternator cannot switch back & forth. Appears to me that they completely deleted that second drive belt along with the BISG.

That instant torque of making the switch from the electric to ICE at idle when the truck is just sitting still is pretty crazy. The day before I bought my 23 PB, it was idling next to us as we were talking to the salesman about it, my wife saw the entire truck twist and she kinda freaked out LOL. I don't mind it, but I wouldn't be upset if there was an update that switched the 21-23 to just operate with one vs two.

So with the new 2024 setup, will the truck default to the traditional flywheel/Bendix starter when an engine start is necessary?

That's just it. The Powerboost BISG was never a generator. It certainly could have been deployed as one if Ford saw fit. But they didn't.

It was just a 12V belt integrated starter. One that apparently is no longer considered necessary after fine tuning the traction motor/clutch with "300+ software changes", that enables it to expand its ICE starting workload.

Another salient point: looking at the diagram, it appears that the BISG is what prevents top down access to the oil filter. Put another way, if that thing vanished, I could get channel locks onto the oil filter if it gets over torqued.
