Is anyone here familiar with the tuning process for the 23 3.5 Ecoboost w/o power boost? Looking to save around $800 by purchasing my ecu from an online distributor but need to know if a particular part number(ML3Z) can be used. I know that a ML3A works

I would contact Livernois. If I am not wrong, they are the only ones tuning this truck year?

2nd above. Contact Livernois and ask. I was considering tuning my '23 2.7L, but they wanted $1,100 for a new ECU and $800 for a tune. let me know what you find!

I’ve contacted them already, that’s top secret info and I fully understand why.

Gotta pay to play fellas. If it's something that is proprietary to them, can't really blame them. Personally, if I am paying that much for an ECU AND a tune, you better not lock it...because you are getting into a standalone money territory.

On my 2021 3.5EB, I'm using my factory ML3Z-12A650-GVB with HP Tuners. My understanding is that ML3A is just the engineering number printed on the part itself as opposed to the ML3Z service part number that you will listed in the parts catalog.

Changing the factory setting may provide more horsepower or somewhat alter the torque curve but it is not going to improve fuel economy. Why do people think that some guy in his basement can outdo the thousands of automotive engineers and the auto companies?

I select the engine (and gas or diesel) and the gears based on my intended use of a truck. After that it is up to me to drive it to best advantage.

Have you driven a tuned truck before?
I agree, you'll get a more enjoyable driving experience in both power and transmission characteristics but don't expect better mpg. Not to say it isn't possible to see .5-1mpg improvement a tuned truck opposed to stock. Most tune to get some "power" back after heavier wheels/tires or the additional of other performance modifications.

With the eboost tune and 93e0 fuel my in-town mileage has increased 35% or so.

How can aftermarket provide better results? Because they're not stuck on a deadline or accepting good-nuff. The gurus typically leave companies to do their own thing so someone like ford ends up with good-nuff folks instead of the people who can make the difference. The pareto principal can be a real bitch when difference makers move on. Listening to sandy munro gripe about ford's culture is pretty telling. 20 years ago he was trying to get them to move to castings. Elon does it, shaves costs, increases structural rigidity, reduces factory footprint by 30-40%, reduces waste, and lowers manufacturing costs and suddenly everyone and their dog wants to do castings.

I'd also assume the factory tune has quite a bit of compromise built-in to satisfy EPA and warranty requirements.

You couldn't have said anything further from the truth. In multiple applications, tunes have been done by the aftermarket that drastically improved performance AND gas mileage.
