Certainly, but I can see it on TV already. The judge will tell the mother and her two daughters in the court room, I'm sorry for the loss of your husband, but he should have understood that the vehicle was only equipped with level 2 adas and it would never be able to stop. With this I find that Ford cannot be held at fault for the accident.
I just don't see it happening this way.
That's akin to blaming an accident on cruise control. Furthermore the black box data hasn't yet been released, but it will be. The NTSB is on both incidents already which will have ford have a hand in it too. I'd bet ford already has all of the data so long as the 12v system was intact post collision. The MME's battery is right in front of the driver. It's power distribution panel on the other hand is around where the left front tire wheel well is, just in front of it. Odds are 50/50 depending on how bad the accident was if the 12v system remained powered up enough to call home and dump its data.

Having looked at the post accident photos that have since been deleted, the MME hard braked right before impact which sent it under the CRV. The CRV doesn't look like a CRV any longer, it was obliterated. The MME was pretty much intact looking like it slid under a vehicle at speeds much lower than it occurred at.

This is looking at the cabin, the bar across the top is the strut tower brace, the components are about 3' foot or just under it from the front end.

However the battery cable runs to this which probably got clobbered -- this is where the power splits off (a fuse box clips over this). All of the modules like TCU / IPMA and what not are in the back of the vehicle.

The NTSB report probably won't be out for a year or so.

A sudden reveal is my worst nightmare. I've already been in one accident in my life from one, they can be impossible sometimes. I was behind a uhual style box truck, no way to see around or through it. AEB and collision avoidance stand no chance many times due to how little warning there is. As someone who has put a lot of effort into L2 ADAS system, I literally lose sleep over this.

Do we need to increase following distance in cases where we are stuck behind a box truck? Personally, at highway speeds, I don't sit behind something where I can't see the road ahead of me. Brake lights a 1/2 mile ahead or seeing vehicles swerve is important information.

it might be helpful, depending on traffic patterns. In rush hour if you leave a big gap you just get lots of people cutting in front of you which isn’t really safe either. Staying behind cars that are shorter than you and you can see over is probably the best way to avoid sudden reveal.

Let add
It's not a ford.
Saturday we were headed to tyler around 1045 am
Got stuck behind a tesla in 70 zone on 2 lane . She was doing 64
I could see woman lips going a mile a minute in her driver mirror. She even have me the snide eye when flashed my lights.
When we got a point to pass her when road went to 4 lanes.
She had the phone stuck to her head,
She was not driving the car. Her other hand was on driver door ledge.
But she was blocking the left lane.
She was an accident waiting to happen
Tesla does not have hands free phone???????
I left my point
She was 100% distracted and had no clue about anything around her.

Admit it.

None of us pay as much attention when "just" using adaptive cruise as we do without it. We've all seen those videos of Tesla with fast asleep people behind the wheel.....

This isn't a Blue Cruise problem. Maybe a driver without using Blue Cruise would have avoided it. Maybe a driver without Blue Cruise would have avoided the stalled vehicle but created another accident. Everyone has different reaction times.

Using one of these systems, correctly, isn't a free pass to not be aware of what's going on.

BlueCruise is L2, meaning driver always has to be aware and in control. However, I have always made the assertion that ADAS of any version need to be more capable than a human. I know costs concerns are valid, but I wish all ADAS systems had vision, radar, and lidar. None of those help in a sudden reveal situation, however if all cars had those things, and shared that data wirelessly with other cars within a 1,000 yards.... problem solved. Your car now knows the car in front of it detected a stalled vehicle. I know this is a dream that is at least a decade way from reality, but it's where we need to be going.

In slow/crawl rush hour, I wouldn't necessarily increase following distances. FWIW, in heavy traffic, I try as much as possible to control who I let in front of me. That lifted F350 isn't going to be one I let in.

not is slow traffic, but a slow traffic sudden reveal won’t be fatal either (unless it is a pedestrian). Here in Houston we have very very heavy traffic that still flows at 65-75mph.

I don't support autonomous driving, but this is squarely on the moron that failed to move that heap of shit off the highway. Who tf stops in the middle of the road? Assuming you're moving at some point on the highway, coasting to the side is the bare minimum expectation. Can't do that? Hazards on and push/roll that shit.

I agree. Common sense is no longer common and paying attention is no longer free.

history channel modern marvels had a piece on cars talking to each other to make the roads safer by data sharing..
the one underlying issue was government intervention to stop traffic or the like with no recourse by the drivers..

imo if the system could do the part of sharing data to mitigate incidents GREAT
letting the gov take control WRONG as turd in a punch bowl. i am not pr or anti gov...but one size fits all is not a viable solution

I DO support autonomous driving but agree with you on who is at fault. When people do VERY stupid things, it's tough for there not be consequences. Neither people nor robots can mitigate this 100% of the time.
