Headliner rattle with pano moonroof

Hey everyone, I know others have had similar rattles, but I’m wondering if anyone has found a permanent fix short of having the dealer replace the headliner. The rattle is right above my head and is caused by glue failure of the plastic tray that is glued to the headliner. The tray itself attaches to the moonroof frame with magnets, and is meant to keep the headliner tight to the moonroof. I tried a two part plastic epoxy, and that worked for the rear section of the tray, but failed on the front. Maybe I just need to use more epoxy? I’ve put some felt tape at the rattle points to help until I find a permanent solution.

I would try JB Weld epoxy... I have used it on plastic and works well.

I’ll may well give that a try. I used Loctite instant mix this first round.

Thoughts on this? I like using syringes with static mixers so I can just put the tip of the mixer where I want it and not risk a mess on the headliner.

I used it on the bottom plastic outlet that, was split, of a 300 gallon water tank and it holds good.

That is the stuff I used. You have to mix the 2 parts until they are a grey color.

Respectfully, the only dealer in my area that I trust is booked a month and a half out. On top of that, I would have to be without my truck for however long it takes them to order and replace the headliner.
If this is something I can repair by myself in 30 minutes and minimal cost, that’s the route I’ll take.
If you’re more than a bot and want more details for parts failure tracking and such, I’m happy to take more pictures.

Been dead silent for over a month now!

I have the same headliner rattle and it’s been driving me nuts! I took it in to the dealer and of course it didn’t do it while they had it. I found if I push up on it for a few seconds it goes away for a while which would explain the glue issue since I’m pressing it back together.

This is what happens when inbound OTA's come to fast they knock the headliner right off of the roof of the truck, I Like @Kanuck 's idea there with the JB weld, but he doesn't have to worry about his headliner coming down because he seems to be on Ford's Shit list as far as OTA' goes. ? ?

That’s exactly how I first troubleshot mine. I’ll bet if you do like I did and pull down on the headliner a bit that you’ll find exactly what I found

This is what happens when inbound OTA's come to fast they knock the headliner right off of the roof of the truck, I Like @Kanuck 's idea there with the JB weld, but he doesn't have to worry about his headliner coming down because he seems to be on Ford's Shit list as far as OTA' goes. ? ?

That’s exactly how I first troubleshot mine. I’ll bet if you do like I did and pull down on the headliner a bit that you’ll find exactly what I found

I’ll look at it tomorrow and let you know. We finally have a warm weekend so it’s time to clean the truck out and get all the salt off the floor mats.
