Found a great deal on a new truck and dealer is offering pretty good trade in. Looking to upgrade from 2021 XLT Sport 302A 2.7 EB 2WD to 2023 XLT Sport 302a 3.5 Powerboost FX4 with all options. My truck has 51k miles on it and I'm paying for an extended warranty currently. The new truck would be a couple hundred dollars more a month. Would it be worth it? Would the Powerboost be that much better than the 2.7

A couple hundred dollars more a month does not sound like a very good deal.

Also XLTs are in the 300 series of family. A 502 would be a Lariat.

The powerboost is great but if you do not have a need to power a travel trailer or something like that, I cannot see most people making use of them. Also do you need the additional capacity for towing?

Since you are on the current gen truck, I concur with @mdn14 unless you are gaining features you really want/need, I would not take the extra monthly and likely extended term of the new loan. I am not super well versed in the various differences between trims, but I personally wouldn't do it based on the light information we have. The powerboost is nice but not hundreds more nice unless you REALLY use what it has to offer.

I may take a slightly higher payment at the same amount of time I had remaining on my current loan or a lower payment if I had to extend my term but not for an increase in both.

You're correct on the 300 for 500 series sorry I was looking at some Lariats as well.

Just wanted to make sure you had your cards straight and there wasn't a dealer trying to take advantage of you (y)

I would gain many features that I've wanted since I've owned my 2021. The 4WD, of course the 3.5, B&O sound system, work surface. My current truck has been good. My biggest issue with the 2.7 is the extremely rough idle in the 100 degree summer weather. My current truck does have some noticeable damage and quite a few dings and scratches.

I'd also add that if your current truck is not having issues, it may be a good idea to ride that one out and save the cash.

That 2.7 guy is an amazing motor and will keep ticking for a long time. I also don't think you'll get a mileage gain assuming you do just a little bit of highway. The 2.7 rwd is the goldilocks for highway mpg.

I just drove around in a light snowstorm in 2wd too this week. Never needed 4wd even with the bad factory Michelin's.

Sounds like you want to do it. If you can afford it and you are getting out of your truck at a good price, go ahead and do it. Be careful on interest rates tho! They are still pretty high. Good luck!

Looking at getting the 23 F150 Sticker is 70k at 55k still owe 38k on my truck and looks like they're going up to 31-32k, clean trade in should be around 27k % is looking like 5.9 with $2750 back on Flex Buy 1.9 72 months

Thats seems like a fairly solid deal, only downside is the negative equity coming over but that is what it is. If you have a carmax near you I would get a price from them on your truck as well, they usually come in higher from my experience and most dealers will match it.

Also the 1.9% financing is seemingly a better deal than the 5.9% with cash back. When I bought my truck last month it was 2.9 vs 5.9 with $1500 cash back and the interest savings ended up being about $4,500 more than the cash back would have been over the life of the loan. Ball parking your loan at about $63-65k with taxes etc. your payment will a little over $100 a mo lower at 1.9 vs 5.9 all things being equal. You'll save a whole lot more over the life of the loan, and break even at a little under 2 1/2 years taking the financing promo.

I’ll play the little devil then. The powerboost woukd be a big upgrade not to mention the 4 wd . I’m assuming you’ve driven it already. I enjoy driving around town on battery and then having all the power there when you need it. Good luck with whatever you decide

Yeah, it did have some power for sure. I had to test it a bit and don't ever remember getting out on the hwy entrance ramp like that. What kind of normal city/hwy driving mpg are you getting? I do like my 22 mpg pretty much life time with the 2.7.

Don’t do it for the B & O. It’s garbage. Save your money and upgrade aftermarket. Plenty of threads here on the topic.

Unfortunately right now winter is in full swing here so mileage goes to crap, but it’s normally in the 20’s . I would think you would see similar mileage but with 4wd and 430hp

Biggest question: what is your old interest rate vs new interest rate? Second question is do you need more power, ProPower, and 4x4? Third, assuming no on question 2, can you reasonably add the features that you lack? I have a PB XLT 302A 4x4, and I love it, but your truck would cover 99.5% of my needs.

I would take a serious look at upgrading your sound system (Rockford Fosgate has a great 5 channel amp and speaker/sub that interface really well with it), adding whatever features you're interested in from 302A, and maybe getting a set of rear MT tires that you can swap out and potentially even a Torsen/e-locker rear diff. The truck you're considering IS a great vehicle, just don't get tricked into sending a bunch of cash to Ford Motor Credit for features that you might be able to get cheaper.
