The current hardware is capable of Level 3 on interstates, but it is nowhere near the level of hardware Tesla is running to try and achieve FSD. There are a couple of guys the Comma discord working at running OpenPilot on a high end gaming laptop with NVIDIA chips to solve the models and only using the window mounted unit as a camera bank. If that efforts provides dividends then OP might get on par with Tesla from a hardware stand point.

2024 Mustang is already encrypted between the IPMA and PSCM, I'm hoping 2024 F150 doesn't follow suit.
There might be some workarounds depending if the negotiation is 'strict'. Some encryption systems run in a 'preferred' mode. Depending on device compatibility, it may be possible to swap one of the devices for one not running encryption via legacy HW and get it to default to unencrypted communication.

Theres such powerful hardware these days in small packages like the IntelNUC or MacMini Studio. I could see running one or two of these off the auxiliary battery in the back seat to provide some serious compute.

They make vehicle specific stuff. Ford too cheap. I believe it's powering Merc's Level 3 system. Specs... Makes sync look like the 8yr old dated hardware it is

Mine just showed up. Not a min too late. Today on a 100 mike trip my BC 1.2 drove me nuts. God dam thing kept nagging me to pay attention. Then kept dropping . Lane keeping kept telling me to keep my hands on the wheel. I did the whole time. I was so frustrated that I turned it off. I don't think I will use it again and certainly not pay for it.
So excited to get open pilot

Comma relieved themselves of the majority of liability claims thanks to the separation of the hardware from the Open Source software. They sell a hardware device that can act as a video recorder as well as run other software. They were forced to by the NHTSA in order to stay in business. Since they don't develop the Open Pilot code or any of its branches and since the software does not come loaded on any of its devices it makes it hard to hold them accountable.
Don't think for a minute that this would defend them (or an owner) from a civil lawsuit/liability lawsuit if something goes wrong.

Yea as i wrote elsewhere, BC sucks ass about "paying attention". even to the fact that looking at infotainment will trigger it

I would say if you are the type of person that blames others for things that are in the realm of your responsibility then the Comma3x is not for you. Litigious types should not purchase it. OpenPilot is a tool and a very good tool for those who accept personal responsibility. It is a much improved alternative to bluecruise. If you want no responsibility for your actions while traveling take an uber or ride the bus.

I think it's awesome to see this type of innovation happening outside of the major automakers and tier one suppliers! I'm all for innovation and creativity - just encouraging folks to "hedge" by ensuring that you have an umbrella liability policy in place. That's just a prudent thing to do. Last I'll say on this topic, but I assure you, it's a good idea to have one.

I keep an umbrella policy in place and have for years. It is good advice for anyone who wants to protect what they have earned. It is absolutely good advice in this scenario.

Pretty sure all fords going forward will be. Ford introduced TRON(Trusted Module) SO now any time a IPMA, PCM, BCM, DDM,PDM, PSCM,TCU or Gateway is replaced it has to be authenticated on Fords servers and matched with the Keys(Not car Key) in the truck. They wont communicate unless they have been authenticated. So the 24 F150 will have it. The 23 Super Duty has it. I am fairly cetain Ford will have this in all moving forward.

I was really hoping F150 wouldn’t get this on the 2024 refresh.

Is the IPMA physically different (at least new part number)? Do we have to worry about them trying to push encryption via OTA to 21-23? Not that I think they could pull it off since they can't get simple OTAs to work, but they could sure mess things up trying.
