I recently purchased a new-to-me 2022 F150 Lariat with leather heated/ventilated seats. On the test drives I didn't have any issues with the seat, in fact it felt reasonably comfortable. Admittedly not as plush as a Ram I had test drove, but good enough.

However, shortly after purchasing, I've been dealing with ongoing comfort problems that I've been trying to rectify. What I've discovered is the seat feels fine, even comfortable, when I first hop-in, but as the foam compresses I find my sit bones resting directly on the seam that Ford has seen fit to put directly underneath where my butt likes to rest. It's like the foam collapses away and leaves my rear hammocked on that stitch.

The truck only has 12,000 miles, but I've already observed the leather seems to be stretching out due to this unsupported situation. Upon looking underneath the seat, it appears there is nothing supporting the foam except for sparsely spaced wire springs. I did note that passenger seat had an additional plastic plate that ran underneath the seat pad that I believe is part of the occupant sensor system, but seems like it would also provide some support.

Has anyone else experienced these issues and come up with a solution?

Does your seat look the same as mine above and below?

Thanks for the help.

My seat looks a bit like that too and sometimes it feels like I'm sitting on a small hump or something, I just figured it's my big fat ass.

Lol, I'm on the skinny side and feel like my naturally uncushioned bony rear is pressing down in the wrong spots.

Ya I'm 5'11 254 but I swear sometimes when I sit in the seat my ass feels like it's very bony. It's weird it's not this way all of the time, the seat that is, not my as* ?

My leather on my 22 Lariat looks similar to that. Leather does not have the stretchable features of cloth. I am about 200 lbs but the seat does not feel like the cushion is smashing down. I do wish the sides of the seats were raised a little more to "cradle" you in the seat, but that is my only issue.

For what it's worth, I test drove a Lariat and a Platinum back to back when I was deciding on a truck and the seats were a deal breaker. Each test drive were at least 20 miles long [ no salesman] and the lariat seats were uncomfortable even playing with all the adjustments, so I went with the platinum. To be honest, it took a lot of miles to get my Platinum seats dialed in to where I had no pressure points on a long drive. I will have to look under my seats to see if they are like yours.

I have almost 30,000 on my Lariat seats (same seats/material) and I find them very comfortable. Have done some long days/nights in the truck and never had an issue with comfort. The leather did stretch a tiny bit though. I guess seats are like shoes - fit is a very personal thing.

I did exactly the same thing and bought Plat.

I have had issues with similar seat seams throughout the years. At 6' 1"@ 186lbs with a bony butt, I had that issue with my $100k Audi A8 that had 22-way adjustment and I could never get my butt off that seam. I did not test the Lariat and Platinum back to back but my Plat seam does NOT bother me. As described above, it took a good month to dial in my perfect setting.... but that's typical for me with seats that have so many adjustments.

Not Ideal Solution: I purchased a Butt Buffer cushion for my Goldwing. It's the thinnest effective seat pad I've used, can ride on it all day, and it comes in different sizes.

I have driven XLT’s for years. Immediately put Katzkin leather in all. I’ve now had 2 Lariat’s. I believe the XLT seat is more comfortable with Katzkin than stock Lariat. It feels more plush to me. And it it could be just because that’s what my body was used to.

Looking for 2023 Lariat
I have a 23 Lariat with the same seats, I can immediately feel the side seam on the left side of drivers seat digging into my a@@. Between the seat and seatbelt constantly rubbing my neck I will never buy another Ford.

That's funny, I was going to ask about seat discomfort too but it's not my ass that aches, it's my lower back. I have a 23 Tremor 402A so Lariat seats basically. The ones in my 16 were fine, although I got that truck as a demo with 10,000 km on it so it was broken in. I'm giving the truck a chance and playing with the seat settings and hoping the back softens up a bit.

What I THINK is happening is my shoulder blades aren't making direct contact with the seat because the center portion seems to sit slightly proud of the outer edges. I'm thinking it will break in.

Hmm, interesting. Makes me wish I had test driven a higher trim level, but at the time the dealer had limited inventory of higher trim models and this lariat was set up with most of the options I wanted, plus the savings of being used.

If you get chance to check out your seat, let me know. I'm thinking of trying to mod the seat to improve comfort, so if yours looks different, maybe there's some tweaks I can make underneath with some strategically placed plastic or pads. Thanks!

True statement. It's probably not an issue for most, otherwise Ford wouldn't have designed it that way.
