I should have been more precise in my wording, or maybe just a little more verbose. The 2023 powerboost we had issues with was an XLT!
This issue is not just on the higher end trucks, but all PowerBoost trucks, and has been ongoing since at least 2019 according to a TSB that I found on all Ford and Lincoln Hybrid vehicles
I didn't mean that it doesn't happen on XLT trucks. But that it might be driven by something that is standard on higher end trucks, but an option on XLTs, and only occurs on the XLT if you happen to order that option on your XLT.
Ours is pretty stripped down for a PowerBoost. No moving pedals, not the premium sound system, only the basic drive modes (no auto 4wd), no 360 deg view, etc. A LOT of things that we were seeing in the PowerBoosts on the lots we didn't want to pay for, and ended up ordering ours like we wanted, with less. I'm suspecing a module in one of those options is slow on startup, or reporting on the bus, which causes the need to do the two-step start. All this is just supposition, but based on experience with more complex systems that cost way more, and have similar issues sometimes. And they can be a b**** to track down.
Not that I'm trying to defend Ford. Just throwing my perspective out there.
ETA: It MAY have been an issue early on with our truck. I can't specifically remember the fault that occasionally showed up. But it hasn't happened in a long time, and we don't do the two-step. On our XLT.
