I just had this happen today and god damn was it loud. Like cause an accident ear damage loud. Can anyone confirm that the software fix fixed the issue for them? I'm very lucky that I was driving on a slow street when it happened because I had to pull over. That was painful. The sound was a loud buzzing sound and lasted several seconds.

No. Do not bother with them. They only way you will get this done within a reasonable time frame is to have your local dealer do it.
My local dealership is backed up to end of Sept.

Chatting with Ford customer service now.

That may work to get you into the dealer faster.

I mean it sounds like it doesn't exactly correct the issue, only lowers the volume when it happens lol
There are some variations on the issue. I never had the continuous sound that some experience but I had some loud pops switching audio sources or screens on the sync screen. Not every time but occasionally. I get same on my home surround receiver sometimes. It's done it once since update but it wasn't as loud. I can't speak to the continuous noise issue that some reported because I never had that come up.

Thing is, it happens so rarely, there is no way to know if the update really fixes it. Next week, it will be two years since I bought my truck. It has happened to me twice, and the first time didn't occur until one year into ownership. The initial popping sound is unholy loud, and the static sound that follows it can last as long as it wants to even after turning the truck off and locking it. Oh, and I have two 12" subs that are drawing the signal from the factory amp, so when it does it in my truck, it is LOUD! I am very surprised that my subs were not damaged either times it happened.

If it happened to you, trust me, you would know. It is downright ungodly.

I think you may be on to something with the 2023's having a new amp. I went through every post on this thread looking at member sigs, and not a single 2023 owner has reported this. There are many threads on the subject. I will keep an eye out for any 2023 owners that report it.

So after having this issue this past week, I brought my truck in Thursday night for a Friday morning appointment. The three service advisors at the desk acted like they had never heard of the project issue, which I find strange seeing it has been in the national news this past week. At that point I pulled out a printout of SSM 51663 and said that it seemed similar to the issue outlined. We all know how much service departments love internet mechanics and that went about as well as anyone would expect. They were convinced it wasn’t related but said they would look into it and anything else. 48 hours later I still hadn’t heard anything back and where it was Saturday, they would be closing soon so I called and said I was picking it up planning on updating it myself because I didn’t want to wait two more days to get it back. They ended up applying the update (or at least saying they did) while I was on my way out there. Hopefully I’m good now.

I have my truck tied into Apple HomeKit via Homebridge and still get alerts when my car is locked/unlocked/started/etc so at least they didn’t try lying about working on it over the two days I guess.

Had anybody noticed a slight increase in audio quality and overall volume since applying this update? I noticed it right away when I got my truck back but figured I was imagining things but now after a couple weeks, I am sure there is at least a slight improvement.

Had this issue too. Happened when I was in reverse and the screen even froze and the image stayed frozen on screen, until I shut off the truck.

I remember coming across this post long ago. I hoped to never have anything to contribute on here, but you can add me to the list. I've had my truck 16 months and it has 8600 miles and today, it did this. The initial pop almost caused me to soil my pants. I have two 12" subs in an under seat box that gets its signal from the factory system, so you can only imagine how LOUD that thing was. After that, the noise is made wasn't like the OP....it was more like a rice crispies when you first pour the milk on them sound, but infinitely louder. Pulled over and turned off the truck, and it was still doing it. As I'm trying to unplug the harness from the factory B&O amp to get it to shut up, it just stopped. Scarily started up the truck again after I pulled the fuse from the aftermarket amp, and it was gone. I then reinserted the fuse for the amp, and still no boom followed by rice crispies.

I got on PTS and looked up my truck so see if it reported any DTCs, and nothing reported. So this truck basically created a sonic boom within itself and doesn't even know there was an issue. ?‍♂

Edit: After reading the entire thread and further analyzing it, it happened to me shortly after I put it in reverse to back out of the parking spot I was on shortly after I started the truck. You know it always takes a few seconds to connect to Android Auto. I'm thinking of shifting it into gear while it's connecting to your phone somehow triggers it.
Same I was reversing and phone was connecting and boom static. Backup screen froze the image too
