I recently added the rain sensor to the cavity in the windshield up behind the rear view mirror. I checked voltage on the harness plug for the sensor prior to purchase and confirmed there was power to the plug. I have a 2022 XLT 302A with 360 cameras. After installation, I made the below FORscan changes. I DID NOT update my wiper stalk. After this, the wipers are now rain sensing and adjust speed based on rain intensity (tested with a hose), as long as the stalk is not in the wiper off position. Don’t forget to turn on rain sensing wipers in the Vehicle Settings menu, Settings->Vehicle->Wipers->toggle on “Rain Sensing”. Figured I would share in case others want to do this rather inexpensive simple modification (~$40). Picture attached of the sensor installed and I also circled in red where the harness was initially plugged in at the dummy spot. You can pull down the plastic cover behind the mirror to see this, it’s easiest if you start at the edge that meets the windshield.

This is an important part. A buddy of mine recently did this upgrade and he overlooked this step.

I too have a 2022 XLT and mine came already equipped with the rain sensing option.....Wonder why yours didn't.

I believe the rain sensing wipers get included when you have Co-pilot Assist 2.0, which my truck did not have.

That would explain it then. Glad you got it working on yours.

Do you happen to have the part number for the sensor?

Is this it? LU5Z17D547B

@Rineland Thanks for the info. I was waiting to get the heated steering wheel parts that include the auto wiper stalk, but now I will work on the Forscan changes over the weekend instead!

I’m in the same boat! I had the sensor and figured I’d try installing it and seeing if it worked with my regular stalk until I get the new SCCM and heated wheel. The stalk is basically just a switch and I figured the logic for the rain sensing wipers came from somewhere else so I decided to try it. Happy to report it worked and I wanted to share the results with others on here.

Nice! My Co-Pilot 2.0 Assist got deleted after I ordered and I'm thinking of doing the mod to get it back (less the "Intelligent" portion, since you need Connected Nav for that) but the rain sensing wipers seems to be super low hanging fruit in the meantime.

For Forscan, I've never messed with the as-built, just the "easy mode" settings. Do you know the APM, SCCM and IPC "friendly" names for the settings I'd need to change?

I believe it is ML3Z-13K359-BA for vehicles without the electric tilt and telescope and ML3Z-13K359-DA if you do have electric tilt and telescope. This was from my earlier research, but you do not need the rain sensing wiper stalk for this mod to work. It’s working on mine without it. The off position is off, the speed settings are the minimum speed the wipers will run once the sensor sees rain.

I’m looking to do the same by adding the CCM and getting adaptive cruise (less the intelligent part because I also don’t have the built-in connected navigation). You can add the speed limit sign recognition now if you want, it’s all based on what the camera up by the rear view mirror sees. I find it pretty handy because it catches signs that I often miss.

I’ve actually never used the easy mode, but I’ll check it out and see if any of the options available match up with what I changed to enable the wipers.

Gotcha. I may update it down the road. Great work around!!! (y)
