I assure you, the dealer didnt budge on that MSRP!
ever since the pandemic occured if you buy a TRD Pro at MSRP or less and then go down the street to sell it, you shall get more than what you originally paid for. it’s extremely sad but true.

My comments (worth exactly what you paid for them):

I bought a Jeep Wrangler new in 2016. It was pretty much the same as a 2011 tech wise, only very minor changes until the 2018MY. I suspect RAM uses a similar strategy - sell it as long as possible to recoup those sunk costs over as long a time as they can.

I was absolutely going top trim. I looked at ordering a RAM. It would have been a diesel to get the fuel mileage. I went with the F150 for the more updated tech, the hybrid and the 7.2kw generator so I sacrificed reclining/vented rear seats and supposedly a "better" ride. Sticker prices were comparable with similar equipment otherwise.

As far as incentives go, if the buyer is OK with a compromise purchase and so willing to go with dealer stock (or has a need right now to purchase something) they are likely to see dealer discounts on some inventory. One local dealer sends me 2 or 3 emails month now with markdowns on their in stock trucks.

If you want a specific configuration, you will likely not get much off from the dealer on an order so then Granger is probably the least expensive way to go. The other option is join an organization that gets plan pricing (MCA gets X plan after a short wait for some membership levels) and order exactly what you want. X-plan may not get a price below Granger, but it does limit documentation fees and some other stuff.

I had Rams as well. I like Ram. But there is a definite pattern for Ram sales. They debut a new generation and it sells really, really well. However, the sales numbers then slowly drop off over the course of time. The 2019 Ram 1500 (year 1 of Gen 5) sold 633,694 total units. 2022 sold only 468,344 units. Of course, there is no difference at all between the 2022 and 2019 models (or 2023 for that matter). That is my point. If you are driving a 2019 or 2020 Ram, why replace it? They are built well and should still be in great working order. So the bulk of your buyers are likely people who drive other trucks or are ready to get out of their Gen 4 Rams. Gonna be less for each year that they keep the platform without changes. In 2024 it looks like the ICE version of Ram will stay the same and all the new development will go into the Ram Rev EV truck. So i doubt Ram ICE sales will increase absent some discounting.

Point being, when sales slow - your overhead does not and they need to move units to keep their UAW workers employed. Thus, incentives appear. At these prices we are starting to see, I know some Ram guys that will swap out their 2019s for brand new and maybe even pay a little less a month. Good for them.
As far as I remember the one difference between 2023 and older is the UConnect 5.0 software, not saying it’s worth the difference to upgrade if you have a ‘22 Ram, but maybe a ‘19 especially at $10k+ off msrp.

As a side note, there’s about 20~ brand new F-150’s sitting at my local dealership (Ken Garff Ford Cheyenne), including a heritage edition XLT. To compare, there’s about 20 bronco sports (including heritage edition), and 20 explorers as well. That kind of inventory has not been seen recently

I got X plan on my truck (which was dealer stock) back in March which amounted to about $5k off sticker when including limited doc fees, and I got 0% financing.

I don’t think we’ll ever see 2008 levels again, but buying power seems to be swinging back to the customers

I have purchased all of my trucks with basically supplier discount pricing (F150, Ram and GMC). Each new vehicle has set a record for pricing. I load them up and they are always on the highest end MSRP. My GMC is the most i have ever paid for a truck. I've spent more on cars, but truck pricing is crazy.

There is little incentive for manufacturers to dump big R&D money into ice vehicles right now with all the ultimatums being forced on them.

I'm now at the point that I may have purchased my last vehicles. You don't live forever and I've already exceeding the lifespan of everyone in my family. Mom, Dad and sis all died younger than me and I'm the last one left. At this point, I don't see myself ever owning any ev vehicle beyond my golf cart ;)

If my GMC got ripped off or totaled, I'd try to replace it with the same and 2nd choice would be a Ram 1500 Limited 4X4.

Bought a '22 Demo XLT loaded up powerboost, $10k under MSRP with 1,825 miles.
That’s a good deal but about what I’d expect, a demo is not really a brand new vehicle in my eyes. Mine had like 19 miles on it after my test drive. I think 3 miles on the odo when I hopped in. I thought it was crazy during peak constraints people were paying markups on essentially used vehicles.

I understand it's not technically brand new. Trust me, my '13, '17', '20, '21, and previous '22, I purchased all with under 10 miles on the clock. However, I still get to finance it as new. The mileage is essentially nothing and a huge savings versus the same truck. Left overs and demo's are the way to buy.

I bought a demo vehicle once and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again

Total bizarre move. Those trucks were honestly garbage in every way and looked dated ten years ago. They're significantly smaller than the current gen too.
I had three...and ones still a company truck I sold them. Never an issue with either of them.

I know someone who got about 40% off sticker on a GM 1500 that same year. 2008 was an anomaly
This was during the great recession of the oughts. Multiple banks collapsed that year and we went into a deep recession for almost a year and a half. It was definitely an "off" year.

It is not an apples to apples comparison and this is partly by design. For example Ford's bed utility package adds $695 to the purchase price and requires no changes to the truck build. With Ram their bed step requires a number of other changes that make the total cost at $2,000.

Ram has far fewer locking differential options on non-Rebel models and far fewer engine choices if one does not want their eTorque unit which is very expensive to replace.

Of the 4 pickup manufacturers I like the Ford user interface and controls the least. Just to change the air vents from top, middle, or bottom position I need to push a small button near the bottom of the center display and then use arrow buttons to select which are to be active and which to have closed and then exit the display which is not safe to do while driving down the road. Having to pull off the road to safely change AC or heater or defrost settings is beyond stupid. The entire steering wheel control buttons is very busy and not designed to be easily used while driving.

Chevy has the best driver controls setup but no options for a locking rear differential and there is only the 23-gallon fuel tank so a very limited driving range. These are the two reasons I bought a Ford and not a Chevy in 2022.

My local Ram dealership is also a Ford dealership. They aren’t discounting the F-150’s much, but they’re advertising 17% off on Ram trucks.
