I also hav S21+, not talking on the phone that much but noticed lately that when I end a call in the truck, it takes forever to the call to actually "clear" the system. The other party's name still appears on the dash and the Audio section in the 12" screen is grayed out (muted) apprantly because I am on the phone but I am not. This goes for good 20-30 seconds after the call ended.
Since I am not getting updates on the truck, I suspect the culprit is either a recent update of the phone itself or in Android Auto app on the phone.

Turn off bluetooth AND wifi. While the audio uses bluetooth, AA uses the wifi. Kill wifi then bluetooth and it won't hijack the phone. You can't do just one.
Your the man! That worked. Not the best option and I'm still pissed that android does this. Good thing is once I get back in the truck all I have to do is turn on both BT and wifi and truck reconnect without trouble.

I'm not sure if BT alone connecting to AA will turn the wifi on -- haven't tried it. It is a bit cumbersome to prevent the vehicle from hijacking a call. You do get used to it though.

Actually I think it's wifi turning the Bluetooth back on.
