I was washing the back of my truck today and noticed that there is a pretty definitive quarter inch gap between the Platinum metal placard on the tailgate and the body of the tailgate. I don't know if the end clips are not connected or if the placard is designed this way? I looked at my white F-150 and it is snug up against the body. Here are a couple of pictures, although it might be hard to see the gap. I can get better lighting if you guys can't see.
Thanks in advace

Edit: Here it is pushed against the body.

I don't seem to recall a gap on my 21 platinum. Is the gap consistent all around or only in that one area? I would think it should be tight all around.

It's a thing. Mine isnt that bad, but there is a gap. I believe others had reported that if you take it back to the dealer they can "adjust" the clips that hold the badge on so it sits flat.

Its on both ends... the top and bottom appear tight... it just seems like the placard doesnt hug the curve of the tailgate.

Soooo, I got a pretty good look and it appears it's double sticky-taped... Not clipped? At least on the ends... Look at the tape being stretched....

No gap on mine, but I do recall a few threads on this when the 21s first came out. I do agree yours looks worse than I remember from the early posts.

In the morning I will try to remember to go out and look at mine.

My KR had the same issue. My dealer replaced it under warranty.
The truck had over 35k at the time.

It is just taped onto the tailgate. Mine flew off over a year ago somewhere between New Jersey and Virginia. Shortly after that incident, I lost both of my wiper arms. I've never owned a vehicle that had so many parts just fall off.

Geeze, Im not even at 10k yet. Youd think with variable weather conditions, they wouldnt use double sided tape...

There's some pretty strong tapes out there. Nearly every piece of body molding / exterior trim is held on by it. 3M makes some good stuff.

The issue is that one, the part should be checked pre installation to make sure it's going to sit flush, and 2, the surface, like painting, needs properly prepped as in clean clean clean, no hand oils, fingerprints, etc... If it wasn't done right, and the part pops off like yours has done, it's done done. Needs tape replaced. It sticks really good, especially to dirt that gets in it.

Mine has this. I got the gray Platinum lettering from Ford and am worried the dealer might want to replace the panel if I bring it in. not bad.

If you're capable of removing it and doing it right, you can get the body molding tape from walmart. I suggest walmart because you'll actually get REAL 3m tape and not some knockoff special on amazon. If you want to do it yourself let me know and I'll tell you a working process for it

Any of the trucks that have the applique have this issue. Just get some 3m exterior double stick tape and reapply it.

Mine is slightly raised on my KR, not enough to bother me yet.
