The results are based on a user survey, and then are shoved through custom weighting.

This is shit methodology for anything beyond a rough estimate, and lends itself to brand impression. I don't say my Toyota has problems because Toyotas don't have problems. I'm fine talking about my Jeep's squeaks and rattles because it's a Jeep and Jeeps squeak and rattle.

This is all just people tuggin' it out to their own bias-porn anyway.

You actually have a lot of company with fellas driving Powerboosts that run fantastic and tow too.

Statistically, MOST of them.

Just a bit more than squeaks and rattles.

What Types of Problems Are Reflected?

Are All Automotive Problems Included?
Respondents to our surveys are asked to identify problems they have experienced in a 12-month period in any of 17 trouble spots. We do not currently publish scores for active driver assistance systems and airbags because problem rates in these areas are low or, in the case of airbags, because of recalls.
What Do the Trouble Areas Cover?
Our Reliability History charts cover problems in any of 17 trouble areas. Here’s a look at what’s covered in each of those areas, listed in order of mechanical and more serious problems first:

ENGINE (or ELECTRIC MOTOR), MAJOR: Engine or electric motor rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.
ENGINE (or ELECTRIC MOTOR), MINOR: Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, electric motor malfunction, fuel leaks, oil leaks.
ENGINE COOLING: Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.
TRANSMISSION, MAJOR: Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.
TRANSMISSION, MINOR: Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.
DRIVE SYSTEM: Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.
FUEL SYSTEM/EMISSIONS: Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.
ELECTRICAL (or CHARGING) SYSTEM: Alternator, starter, hybrid/electric battery replacement, hybrid/electric battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start, electric vehicle charging.
CLIMATE SYSTEM: AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.
SUSPENSION/STEERING: Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.
BRAKES: Antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure, premature wear, regenerative braking.
EXHAUST: Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.
PAINT/TRIM: Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.
BODY INTEGRITY (Noises/leaks): Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.
BODY HARDWARE: Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.
POWER EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES: Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB port, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.
IN-CAR ELECTRONICS: CD player, rear entertainment system (rear screen or DVD player), radio, speakers, in-dash GPS, display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, infotainment hardware replacement, software over-the-air fixes, head-up display.
Are All Problems Considered Equally Serious?
Engine major, engine cooling, transmission major, and drive system problems are more likely to take a car out of service and to be more expensive to repair than the other problem areas. Consequently, we weight these areas more heavily in our calculations of model year overall reliability verdict. Problems such as broken trim and in-car electronics have a much smaller weight. Problems in any area can be an expense and a bother, though, so we report them all in the reliability history charts.

I can't blame anyone for drawing their line on buying from a brand that you had a negative experience with. But Consumer Reports wouldn't make the insult feel any better.
To be fair, In context, Op wasn’t saying it diminishes the insult. Rather it was vindication for the choice to go with GM while taking away any doubt around not trying another PB.

Now if it’s valid to use CR for that…There are far better sources imo.

General bucket of seeking rationalization for purchase decisions.

On the flip side of that, it’s why the brand loyals are compelled to respond in opposition. Their purchase rationalization is about seeing their truck as infallible perfection. And dissenters are an affront to that.

It’s like you say SB, interesting species indeed.

^ Agree

But the opening post, in fact the creation of the thread itself on an F150 forum, just feels like (to me) that Consumer Reports validates his reasoning for not purchasing another Ford F150. And so on the way out the door he felt a little consoled by the fact?

Just to be clear, I'm not offended. He definitely got the short end of the stick as the consumer.

So you came back to gloat? That your new truck is better because CR said it was a little more reliable on average?

Really?

Sorry, I meant what did you order on the GMC?
Sorry - I ordered a GMC Sierra SLT with the 5.3L engine, Volcanic Red with black interior, and all options except the heavy trailer package.

Nope. Impossible. Ford has intentionally and systematically victimized everyone.

So, you don't own a Ford? Shouldn't you be gloating over on the GMC forums?

Nice truck... i think your going to find the 5.3L engine a bit of dog, it is the worst engine in the GMC lineup. the baby duramax is my fav of GMC, and if i was not paying the gas bill the 6.2L

I apologize if some of you think I am gloating here. It was a very vagarious system of steps I went through in dealing with the problems of my 2022 Lariat Powerboost. Even after that ordeal I was ready to buy another one until I was told it would cost me another $8,000 plus the "Repurchase" cash. Rather than pay the $8,000, I cancelled the Ford and went to GMC where I ordered a Sierra SLT for the "Repurchase" cash. At the moment, I do not have any truck. I thought there would be members of the Forum that would appreciate the details of my journey and some of the considerations. I have nothing to celebrate here or gloat about. I had to buy a 2006 VW Beetle just to get around while this truck business is still sorting out.
