It worked for video game publishers like EA and the like..

Give Ford another year or two and they will probably implement their billboard ads on Sync that they patented a year or so back. ?

You're kind of talking apples and oranges. Microtransactions and DLC in games is one thing, unlocking functionality in your vehicle for money for hardware you already purchased as a whole other thing in my opinion. It would seriously influence my future purchases a vehicles if they told me up front I'd have to pay subscriptions to unlock things. Unless it relies on a service external to the vehicle, it doesn't make sense.

You're right the add banners are different. Doesn't mean Ford won't do both it and the microtransaction setup. They've already started with the Connected navigation 3 year trial. Only a matter of time before they follow suit. Next thing it'll be loot boxes.

So what happens at the end of 3 years? Am I unable to use the navigation, or are there just certain features no longer available? (i.e. traffic, weather, etc.)

From the blurb on it the in dash navigation will still work but live updates and all that crap (same thing on any mobile app navigation system) will stop working. I'm willing to bet it's no real loss for most since the majority of people use Wayze, Google Maps or God's help them Apple Maps.

In that case it doesn't really sound any different than the Sync 3 nav. Map updates seemed to be more or less non-existent, and even then I believe you had to pay for them, and I had to reach out to SXM and pay to get the live traffic on my 2015 edge sport.

I’m thinking some may have seen a glitch for the higher versioning than 3.1.1. It doesn’t make sense there would be another right after for 3.5.2 versioning when the previous comment (I attached the PDF of version) version 3.2.1 hasn’t happened yet. 3.2.1 enables the full screen scaling for android auto and car play.

Just wondering where you find this information.

Pretty much. Other than an appearance update over the Sync3 Nav they will be the same.

One a side note at least with Sync3 you could use CyanLabs Sync tool to update the Sync system and maps to the latest release versions relatively easily. I updated my F-inlaw's 2016 F150 to Sync 3.4 and the NA22 maps with Carplay support after installing the updated usb hub from a very early Sync 3.0. Ford told him his truck was too old to receive any of those updates. Took me all of 2 minutes to swap the hub and about 45 for the system to update from a usb stick.

Yea I had to do the same with my 2015 Edge, since it was Sync 2 that I upgraded to Sync 3 myself, I had to do all updates manually. Maybe Cyanlabs will eventually get on board with Sync 4 ?‍♂

It'd be nice, but hard to say if the dev will be successful with all the new encryption Ford has used.

Got the update last week, but just today on 1'st startup, my right side screen defaulted to rear bed view! I had to press the icon at the bottom of that screen to turn it on but there it was, and also at speed!

Huh. I had this since I got my truck. Picked up in May.

Alexa in the truck is no different than Alexa in the house or on the porch. She's no charge herself, but the streaming that you might request (music/movies) will require bandwidth. So however the bandwidth is funded is up to you. If you want to use the truck's optional AT&T LTE service, that's something like $20 a month or $200 annually. But you can leverage your existing cellular service as a Hotspot if you choose?

Of course you can just stream your music from your phone instead. There's so many ways to skin a cat with this platform.
So set up Alexa in the truck today and asked it for directions. It told me where to go but it didn't send the directions to Apple or Google maps ( I have both) My Nav trial expired so not sure if it would've sent the direction to Sync. Not a big deal. Just curious if Alexa can work with any Nav systems to provide directions.
