Does anyone else feel the Drive modes should stay where you (The Driver) last set it?
After choosing a drive mode and stoping the Truck when I turn it back on I have to reconfirm on the screen that I wanted to stay in that mode. Why, Why FORD?

Uses case .
It’s a rainy day, I set the drive mode to slippery and head out. my first stop is getting gas, my next stop was dropping kids off at school and my next stop was coffee and then hardware store and then work.
As a user who knows its a raining day, i need to confirm 4 times to stay in the mode I set in just a few hours. This happens every day.

Anyone try this?

Agreed, but it's not just ford. Previous two vehicles were both FCA products and they would reset after the ignition was turned off as well. Same with the Wife's BMW.

I find the behavior of this system quite odd... when I switch from normal to slippery, drive a bit, and cycle the power at a stop, it will usually stay in 4 auto, but revert to normal mode (which should be 2wd). Not sure what they were thinking..

I don't know the timeout value, but there is a timeout limit to how long your ignition was off before it doesn't even ask you to return, and just starts in Normal again. I'm guessing it is around 30 minutes but have never bothered to investigate.

Someone had mentioned that it has to do with the EPA rating and that since EPA testing was done in Normal, the truck defaults to that so that it is the most common use of the truck and gets close to the claims. Don't know if there is any truth to it but it was one theory offered.

Personally I'd love it to stay in Eco or Tow without me asking but I just deal with the annoying limitation.

Yes.

You use slippery in rain? Seems pretty unnecessary. It also limits your regenerative braking. Is Felton in California?

Especially if you are still connected to the trailer. I know that the truck knows the trailer is there. Why even ask, truck?

In addition to EPA concerns, I would guess it's also a fail safe for the lowest common denominator. Some of those drive modes engage full time four wheel drive. If it didn't reset, you'd inevitably have a number of people that would fail to disengage it manually and drive around all the time on dry pavement until there was a failure.

But like has been said, it WILL stay in 4WD if you shut it off in 4WD. Which is contrary to what you just said.

We had a lot of snow here recently. Just to share my observations on this:

2 scenarios
1) Start truck in 2Hi, normal mode. Set drive mode to slippery…4X4 shift in progress. Set in 4A.
Turn the truck off, run into store and come back out - return to slippery? Yes or no? At this time it still says 4A. If I choose yes, it stays in 4A. If I choose no or don’t respond, it goes back to normal and 4x4 shift in progress to 2Hi.

2) start truck in 2Hi normal mode. Click 4A in normal mode. I can drive around like this all day, and will not be taken out of 4A on subsequent startups. I can switch to slippery and still not be taken out of 4A on restart, regardless of if I “return to slippery” or not

I believe this is exactly how its supposed to work, in both scenarios.

I turned off reverse brake assist in the menu, truck still tells me cross traffic alert and reverse brake assist are unavailable. It tells me every single time I shift from Park to Drive and every time I get in an out of the truck while I'm backing my trailer in or parallel parking the trailer.

My truck is also getting better MPG in Tow/Haul mode than Normal or Eco.

Pressing and turning buttons isn't my favorite thing to do. I like to jump into my truck, warm it up for a minute, check my mirrors and go. Not twist knobs, levers or press OK on the steering wheel repeatedly.

But it is an improvement over previous version. My 2019 doesn't ask if I want to remain in the last selected mode, it just starts in Normal and I have to change it back, if I remember (i.e.; tow/haul with trailer on). It does remain in the selected 4x4 mode, though, because of the rotary dial and I occasionally forget to put it back in 2W mode.

Why not at least make it a selectable option in the advanced settings menu to save the drive mode for 12 hours, 24 hours etc... ? Ford doesn't seem to leave many customizable options up to the customer decision in their vehicles.

Solution might be to increase timeout period to acknowledge remaining in previous mode through software update. When I first start up by the time I put on seatbelt the prompt is gone. Then I have to reselect previous mode. Giving driver a minute would be enough for driver to see it on dash and either simply hit ok on wheel or allow timeout back to normal mode. Even 30 or 45 seconds might be enough.
