This is great info Wolf and I just sent you a DM. I never actually thought of having the truck shipped. I'm on Long Island, NY and the cost of flying out to IA and then doing that 1800 mile drive back home was stressing me out a bit because of the cost and the wear and tear on a brand new truck. Thanks again!
I really don't understand your concern with wear and tear. How will you feel if you car get damaged, even the tiniest chip (not to mention something bigger), during delievery?
And honestly, I can't imagine a one way ticket NY-DSM + perhaps 2 nights in a cheap hotel cost more than shipping a truck now days.

Just my opinion. I don't want the nearly 2k miles on my truck that is brand new. Plus, is there not a better chance of damage or tinniest chip that you mention driving on a long road trip?
And the cost with tolls (NYC), gas, hotels, airfare, food comes out to about $300 to $400 less than having it shipped.

May I ask how much is it to ship the car to NY? I am curious.

I'm getting quotes between $1300 and $1700. I have a friend though that owns an auto body shop and he might be able to get the guys he uses for cars shows to do it for half the cost. Still working out the details with him.

OK, I can't see how a flight/2 nights hotel/food and gas are more expensive than $1300, but as you said - to each his own.
I am just concerned with "what if". Who are you going to contact, Granger? They'll tell you the car loaded in pristine condition (and they'll probably be right). The shipper? They'll tell you that's how they got the car from the dealer. So you start chasing parties, dealing with repairs, etc. At least when you drive, you are responsible to what happens, it's "on you", for good or bad.
Of course if you can use your friend's service for half the cost that's a different story. I just checked a quote for myself, 1000 miles to SC, and saw similar numbers. Granted, I can do it 2 days, you'll probably need three.
Good luck and most importantly - enjoy the new ride!

It cost us only $260 for two of us to fly one way from Vegas to PA for our pickup. We would have flown from FL, but the delivery occurred while I was traveling for work and it didn't make sense to fly home and then fly back up. We stopped and visited family in MD and VA on the drive back to FL to avoid hotel cost. We did use points for a free night at the PHL airport. Had we done the deal to fly to IA instead, we'd have used the points for one night and then paid out of pocket for the second night. By buying remote at 3% below invoice versus x-plan locally, we saved about $1,800. Minus the flights, we still saved $1,500, got to visit family, and now have a little over 1,000 miles on the truck, which means it is broken in and ready for towing our Travel Trailer. I don't think I'd order remotely and then pay to have it shipped as the juice isn't worth the squeeze compared to xplan. ymmv.

Agree with you 100% on the "broken in" part of the long drive from IA back home.

Great thoughts and insights. For me the equation is more about time and timing. The cost of shipping (~$1,000) vs dropping everything to fly out to IA for the 1.5-2 days in somewhat short notice is the more difficult part.

As far as the pricing side of the equation, buying remote from Granger saved me tons (~$5k-$9k) before my transport / travel costs. Most, if not all local dealers aren’t honoring X-plan on ‘22 F-150 orders. They didn’t come right out and say it — in fact several told me they would honor X-Plan — but when it came time to actually placing the order or getting a price on paper they would all change to “MSRP or nothing”. Or, X-plan but only for select XLT models. The best I could do locally was a flat % over MSRP and that was by far the best but still thousands more than Granger.

Granger has been 100% easier to work with, honest, open and helpful…and less expensive by far. All of those are well worth challenges of buying remote to me — either the $1,000 shipping to Denver or the $300-$500 for flight / hotel/ drive.

All of that said, Frontier has $39 flights for around my scheduled delivery time so I may book a few a couple weeks apart “Just in case”.

How many kind words will get me a discount on accessories? (joking)
My thought exactly. I’m at 2,000 words and counting! At a penny a word I might cover some coffee for the drive home.

Well deserved by the entire team. Chip, Jay and Amanda have all been great. Looking forward to meeting you all should I make the trek out to pick up the truck.
